Rear axle quiz------>

i got 71% on this one

Jim, there are a few errors on this one... I sent you a PM with the correct answer for #8, and mentioned a couple others (mostly just wording).

I got one wrong. #3 when did the 8.8 go into production? Could of sworn it was 89:dunno: OH WELL.

Hey Jim shoot me an E-mail I got hundreds of various pics of front/rear axles, t-cases, transmissions Whatever you need and they're all labeled and correct.

Actually both you and the quiz are wrong.

the first year that an 8.8" rear was available in a Ranger was 1986.

Though it was only available in an "Incomplete vehicle" aka "Chassis cab"

They have seeral distinct features, no "ribs" to protect a RaBS sensor that isn't there, and instead of a flat pinion flange they use a half-moon yoke (with U-bolts) like an older ford vehicle.

They are rare but they are out there.

question #7 is also argueable.

As FX4's don't necissarily have the 31-spline rear axle.
As that was part of the FX4 LEVEL 2 specifications.

damn i suck, 50%.. although i've never seen a 7.5 up close in real life ever, nor owned a vehicle with one.

i got a 71% on the front axle quiz.. without having owned a d28

I got 56% too, but I agree, some of the answers are wrong, or seemed wrong to me. The first was the when was the 8.8 available, which like alland said was actually 86.
Some of the others were the pinion diameters, which it doesn't take into effect the gear ratio.
Eh, just a quiz anyway, not like there's a cookie for a prize or something. ;missingteeth;

93% -missed #8. I swore a 7.5 had 2.75" tubes. I guess I know my rearends fairly well. Took me all of about 30 seconds.

i actually knew that... but i sure as hell didnt think of it at the time.

youre right, but... the level 2 didnt start till '03. before that, the fx4 off-road was the same as the later level 2's

The 8.8 became available in the 1990 model year. I realize the 8.8 was available prior to that, but not in a regular pickup and I wasn't going to write all that in to a question.

As far as I know, all FX4's have 31-splines.

Only level IIs...
in '02, level 2 was not an option... the fx4 off-road did have a 31 spline axle.

btw, did the question state a specific year? i dont remember...

Ya, I put 2001 because that's when I first wheeled with one, but they came out in 2002. I wasn't thinking.

I still believe the 2001 FX4 Ranger has a 31-spline axle until an owner of a 2001 tells me different. I had many discussions with Ford prior to 2001 on this.
