Rbv pos!!!

dude its an old truck what would u expect??
i would be pissed if i replace the alt and then 6 months later i have to do it again.
the stuff i replaced on mine is the first time, they still were factory parts, so considering thats 10 years...thats quite a good time.

do as the prev post; go buying the parts when u get money, and when u finally have all u can do the repair.
i try to do it that way, i had the rear shocks under my bed like 2 weeks, waiting to buy the front ones.
today i took it to the mec for a diagnose on the random CEL and unstable idle issue, turn out the EGR module is the trouble. Seems like it needs cleaning. ima wait to buy the oil sender to do it all at once. Hell my mechanic was amazed that for so long i hadnt came back! almost 7 months and when i came it was because of the exhaust coupling seal lol.
everytime i replace a part i feel kinda proud of having a great truck cuz it aint that often. it only had 1 week of purchase and the fuel pump died. considering it had 114,xxx miles i was like :woot: they do last long!

ouch. maybe you should have kept the 99 for parts

I'm at 242K kilometres on the chassis and unknown on the motor. Out of a 2000 Explorer so I anm figuring about the same. Got a rough idle, no power until 2200RPM and my CEL is on. It's at work right now so the mechanic can fire it up in the morning to see it's piss-poor starting. I have it in for plugs, wires, o2 sensors and the fuel filter. More of a shotgun method to see if anything helps.

hmmm.....bought my truck for 10.5k in 04 with 30k on the clock. Now it has about 125 and i'm on tranny number 3, engine #2, tcase #3, slave #5, master #2, bj's #2, front and rear axles replaced/upgraded/rebuilt, torsion bars #2, 2nd set of seats, 2nd floor, 6th muffler and 3rd exhaust system(my choice. lol).....and thats all on the top of my head. pay to play, what can I say?

oh damn....this is the 5th set of tires on it and 3rd set of wheels.

whats your asking price? if you hate it so much ill give it a good home :D

That is what I am talking about. Work hard, play even harder. :icon_hornsup: Once my bike is done, I am going to ride it hard and put it away wet. :hottubfun:

Diffrence is that it seems you can somewhat afford to put it in the shop. My 9 bucks an hour leaves me at 270 a week and about 1000 a month. factor in bills 450 a month and gas 400 a month I am screwed. PS. smoking habit is roughly 155 a month and I smoke as generic as they come unless I go to San diego than I buy camel lights or my mexican goes to mexico than 20 bucks a carton for duty free camels

RSH you are my best TRS buddy for a reason as you always but things in a good perspective. No I mean ZERO major repairs have been needed on this truck. Balljoints went to hell at 114K and alternator at 126,3xx. Fortunatly grandpa talked me into getting a lifetime warrenty alternator at autozone. I just need to save for new balljoints and maybe grab some used tires as my semi-new tires(only 19,000 miles) have been ruined by the balljoints but I'm gonna do things the right way and rebuild my whole front end well I have the axle off and the suspension apart.

When it rains, it pours. Life lessons have always taught me to keep a good stash of savings for those rainy days.

Even my Ranger is having its day. Got another front engine oil leak. Couldn't be the front seal since I replaced that last. Thinking its the oil pump. And I got a box of other parts that I will replace. So I don't have to tear the front of the engine up again for something stupid that might go later.

good, that is good :D

My Ranger has 35K on it....bitches! :thefinger:

Yes, I would like a cookie.

Okay, I suppose I can be serious. Matt, I understand your frustration. Believe me, I have been there before. But when you have a vehicle that has seen more youthful days, you have to expect these things. Really, all you can do is hope it's something minor, and that your truck doesn't leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. In this case, an alternator isn't that bad - it could have been a lot worse. Also, the fact that you were able to drive it to the shop under it's own power is something to be thankful for.
I know it set you back, but maybe you should look at the situation and be glad it wasn't one of a thousand other, more severe things that could have broke.

And be careful with the blasphemy....the Ranger gods hear EVERYTHING!

Staff discount is what lets me have a leg up on this thing. Otherwise I'd be shitting bricks just like you man. For me the Ranger is my nasty habit so that's were all my 'free' money guys. And that's a lot of fuel man, my 4 point oh doesnt use up that much in a month. Bills I'm running around 600 for everything so I think the best bet it just go bit by bit.:icon_thumby:

All the above is true except driving it under its own power. By some random act of god as the truck was dying I pulled into a shopping center with an autozone. I bought the part and went to hightail it to my grandpas house after a jump(he got skillz) and the POS alt kicked on and I hopped on the highway. it started giving out in Lakeside, CA about 2 miles north*not the 20 I needed and I flew off the highway and made a left turn on red(emergencies happen) to dart into an apartment complex where gpa met my to install. it was mostly luck and I'd like to say round 2 had some skillz involved.

good deal. Ummm the gas thing is a drive about 1K miles a week(give or take) which ends up being roughly a hundred bucks for gas. My issue is I never get more than 200 miles to a tank and no trs member, mechanic, or grandpa can figure out why.

quick rundown of issues
1. Balljoints
2. Unexplained rare stalls when acceling from a stop
3. The gas issue
4.Exhaust Grinding noise, think its the CAT
5. Need new tires(balljoints ruined them and they only have 20000 miles. and their falkens:annoyed:)
6. sometimes I have a lot of power and sometimes shes gutless
7. OD doesnt work right
8. Need alignment front and rear( backing into a tree may have messed the rear up but besides that truck took zero damage and tree had quite a flesh wound:icon_rofl:)
9. Needs tuneup

Now do you all see Im screwed?! Maybe my tax refund can help out with the balljoints but I got quite the checklidst. GRRRRRRR its soooooo stresful. Good Night im gonna put down a 5th of jim beam to kick new years in the ass and pass out.

Sorry man that sux im kinda looking forward to you doin this too so i can look at wuts actually involved

quick rundown of issues
1. Balljoints
2. Unexplained rare stalls when acceling from a stop
(Tune up could very well help this. My Ranger was ball-less until al the stuff I threw at it)
3. The gas issue
(O2 Sensors helped me out)
4.Exhaust Grinding noise, think its the CAT
(Looks for a cracked heander and tighten all the clamps and mating points, could turn into a free fix)
5. Need new tires(balljoints ruined them and they only have 20000 miles. and their falkens:annoyed:)
(Now that just plain sucks)
6. sometimes I have a lot of power and sometimes shes gutless
(Same as above on #2)
7. OD doesnt work right
(M5oD, sorry I just like rowing my own cogs)
8. Need alignment front and rear( backing into a tree may have messed the rear up but besides that truck took zero damage and tree had quite a flesh wound:icon_rofl:)
(Always a necessity after ball joints/collision and to save those new rollers)
9. Needs tuneup
(Good man)

For my truck I threw fuel filter, plugs, wires, and O2 sensors at it. I noticed both a power and economy boost. Turns out my rings had shifted in the #1 cylinder and were allowing a little oil up. That made the plug oil foul so I have to change that one out at 20K. Not a permanent fix but dang close.
