So after switching my 96 STX to a 2 bulb tail light, The lights work fine and look great, The only problem is when I press the brakes and have my turn signal on they rapid flash like a bulb is out, all bulbs are fine, Replaced the Flasher with a Heavy Duty towing one, no help...

Anyone got any ideas?

did you check the fuses?

Sorry for no response, Been really rainy the past week and haven't wanted to fool with taking apart my truck in the rain.

I have not checked any fuses, but I'll post back when I can have a chance to check them out.

You say you changed to a two bulb tail light, what was in there before?

Which how-to did you follow?

Try putting a new buss flasher in. Mine was blinking to fast as well so I put a different one in and it fixed the problem. Its A round thing in the fuse box. Google it to see what it looks like.

It's called a hyperflash. It happens a lot if you put LED bulbs into a system not designed for them or does not have an upgraded flasher.

The flasher unit is looking for a certain resistance in the circuit in order to turn on/off at the proper rate. Change that and it flashes faster or potentially slower as well.

Put in a proper flasher for the setup you changed to and it will solve the problem.

I agree with roadkill if you did install an LED light. If you can't find a flaher that works, you can add a resistor to the bulb in series to slow the flash down. You can get the at Advance Auto and places like that in the LED bulb section. If your putting in LEDs to save power, go with the new flasher.

The standard 3 bulb that came with the 96s, Red/clear/amber I believe.

It's a post archived here.

It's not an LED setup, The wires were spliced from 3, to 2 bulb

Also:

I bought a flasher for a 2-4 lamp system that says it's "Heavy Duty"...Would this be the right flasher? I've also seen them for 2-6 "Heavy Duty"

Any info on a part # for a 96 4.0 Ranger 4x4 would be helpful, I'm pretty sure It's the flashers problem, Maybe a fuse that I haven't found that is blow yet.
