I am using a 98 Taurus engine for a replacement in my 99 Ranger. I already swapped over to ranger gaskets and everything else.

My issue is with the trans not bolting up. I used the ranger flex plate but the torque converter is butting up to the flex plate and the bell housing still has a half inch to go before it meets the engine.

Should I be using mg the Taurus flex plate? Does the crank poke out further on the Taurus engine?

I hope you get this working. I have the same thing coming up. I've got a 98 Taurus 3.0 I'm going to try to put in a 96 Ranger. Please post any problems you have so I can be prepared.

I'm sure you already know this but just in case you don't, the torque converter is installed in two stages it slides in then you need to turn it and it will depress the rest of the way.

Found a small burr on the torque converter that kept it from engaging all the way. I bought the truck with the trans laying in the bed so I wasn't sure how everything looked coming out. Runs and drivers perfect now.
