ranger shadow

could it be posable 1 ford dealer back east modified them and did them as dealer installed options?

I seem to recall finding more information about these once. If memory serves me right it was a custom body conversion shop in Tennessee that made these beds. I think the name was Choo Choo Customs, or something along those lines.

i will sell my shadow ranger for the right price

Wish I could all I really want is the bed, I already have a complete truck getting a V8 that bed would look great on it. Even if I could afford it right now, I don't think I'd be able to come get it.

Well there was only 15 made... and like 8 of them are on this thread.... somethings not right.

I am sure there were more than 15 made.I know of three that were sold at a local ford dealer.Mine was bought new there I am the second owner, and I talked to the guy that bought it new.

I posted this question under Gen Discussion, new here and just found this thread. Just looking for some input on what to do with this Shadow I have.

Restore to stock or street rod with a V8 swap?

Thanks everyone for your ideas!

...OK, so based on the amount of these that are showing up in posts, I'm having some serious doubts to the number being 15. I will hound Ford and post what I find out...if anything that is.

the bed was made by an outside company...ford just sent a small amount to get them, while others probably bought them and put it on?

From what i know Ford Sent an original 15 out in 1986 and had them retrofitted with the fiberglass beds as market testing project. But the company sold beds seperately and anybody could order them, and dealerships probably made several of their own to sell. Their are only 15 TRUE Shadow Rangers, the rest are dealer conversions/owner built. Atleast this is the information that I have come across.

I bought mine from a dealership in MI in 1987. They said they had to drive it back from Sturgis, MI. When I bought it, it had 136 miles. I recently came across an ad selling the MOLDS to make these boxes. I called the guy and in talking with him, he verified the fact that the molds had been in Sturgis at that time and they were doing conversions on multiple makes (Chevy, Dodge, Toyota...) If you own one of these, Enjoy it.... They are not that common. I wouldn't wreck the box, that's what makes them different. I've seen variations in the boxes, the fenders on mine are squared off. Others i've seen are more rounded. I love mine and hope to have it for many, many years. If you want to convert it to a v-8, do it. Mine has been that way for at least 15 years. Just enjoy the truck.

it would be cool if you could make a scaled down 70's F150 Front end to match that box.

Look what I followed me home. It's in nice shape, no cracks in the fiberglass anywhere. Nice and solid.
