Ranger returns in 2012

Yeah, I just wish Jeep had some competition. That's what makes car companies advance their technologies, that's whay all those full size SUV's have all kinds of creature comforts, GM makes something and Ford has to outdo them to keep up. Now if Ford came out with a small Wrangler type SUV, imagine the leaps and bounds in technology both of them would make... If Ford comes out with something that has front and rear diff locks, Jeep would likeyl come out with something like that to keep up...

i like the ranger as much as the next guy. and the f-150 is :headbang:. but why waste the time and money redisgning them.

i say
1. the world wants 'mid' sized trucks now
2. might as well make them
3. make the f-100, my pap bout one in ?1960?. i have the manual i could tell ya but its in my room. he loved that truck said it ran off fumes.
4. make 1 last good ranger and make alot of them, but dont entirely stop production keep the designes (maybe one day people will want them)
5. then begin the f-100 trucks
6. everyone who wants a ranger can get one or wait for the f-100 and when some young kid who wants his first truck goes and can still get a ranger

I like your thinking. :icon_thumby:
I wish more manufacturers would make compact SUVs. Not everyone needs or wants a huge SUV.

Exactly... I mean why do I want to buy a $35k 3 ton gas guzzling vehicle when I don't need something that big?

How about a Ranger with the 4cyl Ecoboost that is supposed to put out over 250hp? It should get atleast 20city/26hwy in an extended cab 4x4 Ranger. I heard they are working on a 3.7 v-6 for the base F-150 that could double as the upgrade engine for the Ranger. Simply stiffin the frame a bit and extend the cab even 6 inches to face the rear seats forward. They do not need to re-invent the wheel, they just need to polish it up a little and make it shiny and modern again !! JMHO

I like the Ecoboost idea, it's neat and all, but I don't really need a 250hp 1/4 ton truck... The measly little 100 something hp my 2.5 makes is more than enough, actually I'm so impressed with Ford's Lima series of engines I'm seriously considering dropping one in my BII instead of a 4.0... Honestly I would rather see a 180hp 250-300 lb-ft turbo diesel that gets 30 mpg (I'm not sure on the specs of the Duratorq in Europe)...

My thought is the ecoboost 4cyl would be an upgrade in hp, fuel economy and performance (maybe at the expense of some torque??? Maybe not!) compared to the current 4.0. Probably 90% of Rangers are personal use/light work anyhow. Throw in the 3.5 or 3.7 for better hp,torque and fuel economy over the current 4.0 and it is a powertrain segment leader. Heck a few crossmembers and the frame could be tweaked to be stiffer and the price kept low.

Yeah, I think to Ecoboost is a good idea, I just don't believe gasoline engines are the way of the future...

ford has a few jeep type rigs in r@d mothball...been running round since early 2000's in detroit area...but not lately.

i would rather see small diesel electrics with all hub motors and fast charge plug in capacity...

I'd like to see Ford bring over the old Maverick (the Aussie SUV, not the car)... Give it a removable hard top, keep the solid axles, the 3.0 Duratorq, a 5-speed manual, and optional auto, manual x-case, and call it the Bronco... Who would buy it? I would for sure!

Fusion

I got an email from the local dealer to come by and try out the Ford Fusion Hybrid and I made an appointment and he put the key in his pocket for a test drive but one of the illegal alien coworkers took the spare key and took it out to lunch so I didn't get my test drive in.

I wasn't willing to spend over $27k for a car anyways. When checking the internet though I found a guy willing to give me one for $15,000 plus a $2,000 rebate. I'll probably buy one tomorrow.

Well, that's good news for you. At least you were able to save some money. Were you able to get it already? Post some pics. of the ride here.
