ranger refit/build thread

i think you should take some current pics :)

He'd just be a smart ass when filling out the specs sheet

engine: 1
transmission: 3
transfer case: 2
axles: yes
suspension: where'd i put that?
Tires: 4
does everything work the way you want it to? When i remember how everything works.
If you could, would you change anything? I would have written an instruction manual for myself.

haha i like that:icon_rofl:

current pics won't look much different from the last ones.

but the weather is getting nicer,so i may start picking away at a few things on it.

i just re read this for the 4th time its insane. i had an idea though with how much you are flexing this thing out did you attach the rear sheetmetal fenders to the axle rather then the box? that way you dont have to worry about them eating tires.

also when you get to the rebuild is it going to be street legal again? im just asking cause arnt you going to have to change the vin because of the new cab? and i doubt itd pass a safty lol

in bc, you don't need to have it safety inspected, unless it's been totalled... so he should be fine, as long as the vin on the cab is an active vin, and the vin on the frame is an active vin... though i'm sure he would have to pick one or the other...

i just read the entire thing (again) this is totally the truck i was remembering...

not sure if anyone else has asked this yet, but with using 3 manual transmissions, you don't really get as many low gears as you would think, do you? i mean, the manual transmissions of today, lets say, forinstance, a t5, your ratios are 3.4 2.8 1.8 1 and 0.68, i could be wrong on the 1-3 gears, btu i know my mustang's t5 is 1:1 4th and .68 5th, so you would be counter productive by using those gears right? essentially, if you put your 3 speed in 3rd (i'm sure 3rd is 1:1 and your next trans into 4th (or what ever it be, 1:1 in) the remaining transmission would act as stock gears, right?

is this delta? the house that's just off shot to the right, and i'm pretty sure is the driveway you can just see, is it's address 8225 111b street delta? if so i used to live in that house!!!!!

the rest of the pics from the same time period look a lot like the same area!!!

ya,the cab and frame are frome the same truck,so this one will also donate the registration.

that's pretty much it.everything but the primary trans is left in the 1:1 gear and it's like they don't exist.they are only there as range selectors, just like low on your t-case.you don't shift through your low range gears to get to the high range ones.

nope....that's mission.i lived there for 14 years before coming up here.

ahhh ok, makes sense... so it's still a 5 speed for all functional street uses, you just have more possibilities for low... i assume you only use the second and 3rd transmission as 2 speeds? using the 1st (low) gear and 1:1 gears?

just curious, your first description of having the 205's facing forwards and backwards confused me and i was thinking 205cui motors, any thoughts about running 2 motors, one rear facing in the bed, and one forwards facing in the engine compartment, running into a transfercase's outputshaft (which would work as a 2:1 gear box) and then into a transmission from the input shaft, and then to another transfercase out of that to run the axles? kinda like this idea:

(i'll edit a pic in here in about 10 minutes once i draw it)

i use all 4 gears(and sometimes reverse)on these,depending on what ratio i'm after.

this was discussed in the gt thread, actually.

oh really? i didn't see that part of the gt thread...

the only problem i see with the dual transfercases is one of them would be 100% counter productive... as if you put it in low range, it would technically be super high range, as it's backwards, and the power should be fine, as long as the gears them selves are turning the opposite direction as normal... i haven't worked out the aveage speeds (highway) for the driveshaft on a normal vehicle, but i can't see it being that far out of spec of a motor, being most transmission's 5th/od gear is less than 1:1

this is the least of the problems.the bigger issue is that one of the motors would have to run backwards, since they are facing opposite directions.

wouldnt the 2 motors bind against each other? as they are facing in opposite directions. you would have to run it both in the same direction which just means another tcase in there

Should be a simple matter for you

face them both forward and run the rear engine from the front of the crank maybe

don't the 2 driveshafts in a normal truck turn opposite directions? then because the differentials are facing opposite directions, they both turn forwards? maybe i'm thinking this wrong...

this is what i've been considering for the past little while.

call it mind games,i design stupid stuff down to the last detail in my head while doing other things that don't require full attention.for some things this will go on for weeks or months.every now and then i build one of these things.

that's exactly it.since the diffs face opposite directions, the opposition in direction of the driveshafts(as viewed from the diff input)is corrected.
