Ranger Project Is Gone

I am not going to be continuing with my Ranger, the thing is to far gone, after talking to adsm08, Cody, and Jason, I have decided to leave it set.

Dad will get it fixed as a farm truck, and I will be removing the trim when he is not looking.

I am however switching over to this project in the mean time.

This is the minibike I had for sale, but after a thorough research, this is an expensive minibike 0_0

It has road legal capabilities, although I wont be making it road legal, I will be making it safe for use on the road as transportation to neighboring houses.

Pretty cool little bike. I really like the old briggs flat head motors, those things just run and run.. But I got a hold of a Intek 190cc for free that ran pretty good. Put in an animal crankshaft and connecting rod to bump it up to 206cc, cam, valve spring, Honda carb and a few other mods. I would recommend one of these engines or a Honda 4-cycle Red engine. Honda GC160s are cheap and very potent engines, but taking a risk on durability (I broke one).

My bike is a 1960s Sears Golden Pinto. My dad bought it for us when I was about 8. Here is my minibike as it sets (I put a lot of money into it 4 years ago and finally put it back together, still need ot finish the air cleaner and PCV system):

I would definitely swap the wheels, you can get 13 inch single wheels for the rear of those things and 14 inchers for the front. A mini chopper should look like a mini chopper not a matchbox bike, LOL. Good luck sorry bout the ranger.

Jason had a similar one he got from someone at some point that we were going to mod. Its sitting in the barn waiting to be welded back together, only problem is that the engine that was on it is going on our gokart, but I would still LOVE to get it runnin!

Does anyone have a free spare 3HP or 50+CC Engine layin around? I can pay shippin. Hopefully it runs.

NOTE Looking for a way to make an adjustable throttle on a single speed 2-stroke engine. Wanted to put it on my old mountain bike.

Well, it sure don't have the cargo capacity of the Ranger, but it will take a lot less time to get it up to snuff.

Good choice though. It will take a lot less work to make that Ranger a viable farm truck than to make it road legal.

But I'd like to get the other minibike workin, but I cant weld good, need to get Jason over to finish weldin it sometime, its only got 8 more welds to go.

The minibike he had was higher off the ground, which I like, I like having a good-lightweight, motor bike with a good ground clearance.

They dont make em like they used to, quite literally...... I miss older duelsports =P (aka Trailbikes)

i'd definitely go bigger than 50cc. i have that on a little 'doodle bug' and it barely pulls itself around, much less a passenger on the seat! the GSX160 is the hot deal it seems and worth the bucks as long as you treat it right. also a good used B&S 5hp would do well on it, imho. parts easy to get and not expensive compared to the honda. good luck with your "new build"!!

I want to get a real motorcycle tank for the minichopper, keeping the larger wheels, I did not want it chopper style, but heck, it was free, haha.

I do want to add some clearance though, still working on that.


Anybody got a spare motorcycle tank?

Minibike progress:

Just did this on Sunday, stayed the night at Jason's.

Had to make a spacer using washers on 1 side, and some washers and a piece of steel off an old mower we had purchased, we hacked it off the handle.

Goin to paint it dark purple, with black rims, black wires, and a black seat, and we are painting the motor black.

I'm sorry, and I don't mean to sound like an a$$, but if those are what you call welds, its a GOOD thing you didn't attempt to fix the frame on your ranger; for the safety of the public.

There is a spacer that we had to JAM into that spot, Jason took it apart using a hack saw years ago to modify and we never finished it. And a chunk was missing, so we made due with what we had, there is a steal tube thicker than the frame's tube in that spot, and we junked and kicked and put pressure all over that frame.

Its gonna hold.

EDIT: the beads are large because the flux was reset when he put in a new reel, so we were constantly adjusting the flux speed as we welded.

Sorry man, But I agree w/ Nathan.
That might hold your weight now but it won't last. I would really grind that off and give it another go...
My advice would be to try slowing down your travel speed a little bit, clean the area a little better, move in a circular motion and get a little bit closer w/ the gun.
Also in the last pic, You should try going uphill (or downhill) right inside of where those two pieces meet.

Thats what we did, OH, I just realized it doesnt show the other side 0_0.

This side is ugly, so I took an image of it as a "lol F-U" joke to Jason. The other side is clean, like I said, the flux speed was a little fast.

I dont think you understand....those "welds" look like bubble gum...welds aren't supposed to look like hubba bubba. And Im not saying a weld has to be pretty to be strong, but in this case it looks more like a bunch of spatter as opposed to 'welding' .

but if it breaks, we get hurt, we know who's fault it is....

I am looking for the pieces that hold on the front wheel, those need welded back on too, and we lost those!!!! NOOOO!

I may have an idea where they are, but I will doubt it will be fun digging around in that old bag of trash dad throws my stuff away if its not in a place "he" finds fit.....
