ranger problems

Put a paperclip or wire or something in this and ground it to something when the key is on. Your fuel pumps will turn on.

Ok, i do remember looking at that harness shran, ill try grounding that. As far as the relays go, which ones are for which?

i tried that and it there were no promising results. Do you have a pic of what that harness connects to?

It's just part of the wiring harness on the passenger side...right next to the starter solenoid, fuel pump relays, etc. It's what you plug your code reader into (but I'm sure you knew that) I have no idea where it goes, never traced it. Would you like a pic of that side of my truck? I have no air box so it's pretty easy to see everything...

I'd guess if when you have the key turned to "on" and ground that out you don't hear fuel pumps, you've probably got a bad relay, bad pump, or bad ground somewhere.

Keep me update man. I'd like to see how this pans out.

Yeah that pic would be great, when i got the truck the front fenders were off and the inner fenders were off so i had no clue where anything went. I know the pumps are good because i hot wired them and they turned on. But beyond that i don't know much else. I'm going to start with the grounds, it seems to be a big thing going wrong with my truck lately. I'll keep you posted on this for sure.

Man that sounds familiar. One of mine came to me in the same condition.

I found a ground on each inner fender, and also one on each side of the radiator support. There's also one right next to the wiper motor, and I'm sure there's more but I have yet to find them.

Here's a pic that should give you a good idea of what goes on the passenger side:

And the driver's side:

Now I'm sure mine is not the prime example of good wiring practices, but hey...got it like that...that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. BTW some of that crap on the driver's side you won't have (power & grounds for stuff in the cab)

where in ohio are you?

lol, i have a few extra wires running through the cab for my fog and reverse lights. I hear ya on the wiring practices, when i got this truck, the kid had power wires running everywhere, they were all hooked up to the battery to. Thats why he couldnt get it to start is because anytime those wires hit a ground it would short and blow a fuse. Half the fusebox had blown fuses in it.

It's ALIVE!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!

The relay switch was bad, as soon as i jumped it, i heard the pumps turn on. Started right up and ran like a champ. Now i just have to get a relay switch, then i can get back to finishing up the brakes.

Sweet! Glad to hear it.
