Hey Guys just found out something very interesting about my 2000 Ranger Extended Cab XLT. I was reading some stuff online as I have and idea I want to try with her. That being to find a 7 foot box and put it behind my extended cab. Yes that will mean I will have to Stretch my frame. Anyway as I was reading stuff I came across something about the frames rails on the Rangers not being all one piece. Sure enough when I went out and looked at mine there is a splice at the main eye spring hanger on the rear axle. Now the question I have here is are the frames on the Regular cab Ranger XL 4x4's the same way?

Derrick1970:

The answer is yes: 98+ regular cab frames separate the same way. Best part is you don't need a 4x4 frame, all long box frames are the same from the front spring mounts back.

Ingredients:
1 Supercab Ranger
1 Long box Ranger
6" extension to: Frame (section removed from Long box truck frame), drive shaft, brake line, charcoal canister tubing.
12" extension to rear wiring.

Ideally, you put the ex-super cab short box rear frame onto the shortened front frame, reinstall the old super cab box, install a regular cab, short box drive shaft and you can sell the regular cab, short box truck to recover some of your costs. (Replacing rear frame is a legit process for accident damage; there is a Ford bulletin on how to do it - replacing the rivets with the appropriate bolts).

Pictures of my example to follow.

I think AllanD did this...you might get a hold of him and pick his brain.

I know Allan had talked about doing this, but I don't know if he even got around to it.

all this info is AWESOME guys thank you very much for that. I was actually wanting to find a regular cab long box and that was wrecked in the front and another extended cab short box like mine that was wrecked in the back and marry the two good halves of the wrecked trucks together. Yes I am planning on weldin the frames together too, cause i work my little ranger i have right now kinda hard.
