ranger and explorer front ttb

The difference between a ranger rear axle and the explorer 8.8 is ~1.5". If you look at an explorer and a ranger side by side you would have a hard time telling the difference. And putting an explorer 8.8 in will not change anything with steering or track angles. As far as I know all explorers are sprung under and all rangers are sprung over so unless you are lowering your truck you will have to weld on new perches. Plus the perch placement is the same width on both.

You should look in the tech library since it answers all these questions about 8.8's.

No, I have a 92 ranger trail truck. I dont see how the front ends are the same since the explorer rear is 3 inches wider, that would be a diferent track width front and rear. i guess i'll find out for sure tonight or tommorrow, it's definetly going under the truck. Then i have to fix one of those crappy trailmaster drop plates. I think im gonna use the factory bracket as a template and build a superlift style one. If I didnt have to fix the bracket anyway I would just replace the differental.

Where do you get the idea that the track width needs to be the same front & Rear

Actually a stock ranger has a shorter axle in the back than the front. Doing an 8.8 swap puts them closer to being the same.

I would love to see pics / results of the process. I have a 93 Explorer chassis that is going to donate it all (4.0, Trans, 8.8 and D35) to my 89 Ranger this year.

I have been wondering myself about any differences on the TTB and if the Explorer rear springs could be swapped into the Ranger keeping the Explorer configuration.

No difference besides strength of the axles. Both can be swapped for each other. The d28 and d35ttb can be interchanged without issue. Its the d44 and d60 that require modification for a ranger.
