I've got an '86 Ranger 4x4, 2.9L engine, A4LD trans, BW1350 xfer, manual hubs.

My question is this,
Do you lube the univ joints that go out to the front wheels?
Or the univ. joint that goes forward from the xfer case to the front pumpkin?
Or any of the univs not including the driveshaft.

I ask because I have a maint. manual and can only find info on lubing the driveshaft. My front univs are rusted pretty good and it looks like I could just hose them down with a bunch of WD 40. Any info would be great.

Thanks

I'm a guessing it has the D28 front end? Mine (89, 2.9, 5 Speed, D28) did not have grease zerts in the front axle u-joints or the drive shaft. The front axle u-joints are tiny little things as well so no real room for a zert anyhow. Mine were a total pain changing out as well but had to as they were completely worn out.

In my opinion if they u-joints have grease zerts you can grease them with a gun. Just don't over do it and blow out the cap seals. Can't see where WD40 would hurt anything but unless you can get grease inside the u-joint caps can't see where it would do a lot of good either.

Just my opinion

Thanks for the reply

I forgot to mention the axles, yes Dana 28. Thanks. There are no grease fittings. Is there any way to grease them or do you just replace them when they wear out?

No zerk fittings = non serviceable. Replace as they wear out.

Thank you for everyone for the info.

As already stated and as I read more into my book I found the info I was looking for.
It states that the univs have "lifetime lubrication" and you just replace them when they fail.

Once again I appreciate the time you guys took to read and post. Thanks.
