Hello all,

I have a '99 B-3000 that has lost compression in #'s 3 & 6. Six has zero where 3 still has 55-60psi. Its a pound vehicle so I have no history on it.
The engine runs and sounds really good, except for the 2 cylinders that are missing. (no knocking etc.)
There's no fluids being mixed.
I suspect a bad head gasket , or valves.

Anyway, I have located a '92 Ranger with a 3.0 and I'm wondering if the engine will work "correctly" in the '99 without any major work?
From the research I've done, it appears that there was a change in the intake and the cam in '98. My thought was to reuse the '99 intake in order to do away with any sensor issues, but the cam is another story. Am I asking for a boat load of problems here?

Of course I'd only change the engine if the original engine in the '99 has more wrong with it than expected. Plus its nice to know just how big the spread is on the 3.0 as far as years that fit what other years.

Thanks for any information.

what're your smog laws like on maui? could be different there but i know many main land states require an engine swap to be from the same year or newer.
