Random junkyard finds

The S-10 never really got good reviews from places like Consumer Reports. Rangers in general faired much better overall. I learned some expensive lessons by ignoring what they had to say about a particular model.

CR are a bunch of biased pricks. If its toyota or honda its automatically great while they shit all over anything american.

To be fair, a lot of American vehicles are crap compared to a Toyota or honda.

They do have bias and often towards more expensive products. When I bought the 2011, it was rated better than much of it's competition other than Toyota. The things I got burned on were vehicles marked worse than average or much worse than average. Like the Dodge Intrepid and Chevy Sprint I had owned at one time.

Depends on your criteria.

Like how they rated the ridgeline the best truck when it came out. Based on what? How the hell can something with no frame, IRS, and a 4 foot box take top truck?

Because they test pickups like they do sedans. Its misleading.

Whatever, even if they did test them as trucks theyd still have a hard on over it cause its honda.

To test for best truck they oughta put a pulling sled behind it and see who drags it furthest, which one can carry the most in the bed before it snaps, and which one can get through axle deep mud the furthest.

No foreign turd would ever win those competitions

Car&Driver magazine took a Toyota Rav4 off road for a test. Pretty cool how the little crossover handled itself.

Very cool write up. I always wounder how much those "Off Road" editions of basic CUVs can actually handle.

They burned themselves on the Navajo and B-Series.

Everything they hated about the Ford they loved about the Mazda.

They didn't know it was just a front clip swap and little trivial crap between the two...

I'm not disagreeing and I don't take their word as gospel. Only as a reference. They are most certainly, massively biased on things and want everything to ride like a car. It shows in every review they do on trucks. Even with the 2019 Ranger and it's "floaty" ride, they still complain about the rough ride. They would absolutely hate what I've done to my 2011. They think the ride was bad before....

In any case, I use them as a guide for the reliability ratings as well as reviews elsewhere so I don't get burned on bad vehicles again. Their other product reviews are helpful as well but again, biased. Mainly toward higher end crap I don't want but the trends they show in brand reliability is helpful. Again, not my only source. There used to be another review magazine I would use as well that was less liberal and biased but they went out of business. Forums like this help too.

Also, forget about looking at their tire reviews if you want a truck tire. They pretty much ignore anything that isn't a street oriented tire. True All-Terrains and Mud Tires are not covered at all.

Went junkyarding this afternoon.

Fake news. It just had a regular Ford 3.0l

You northern boys would almost kill for this solid, straight 86 frame.

Do tell, HOW ARE THE CAB CORNERS!?!?!?!?!

Inquiring minds need to know :clapping:
I forgot to look specifically at the cab corners. Just not used to doing that. I noticed a few small rust areas somewhere in the cab. I think a front corner was slightly dented. Overall, a very useable cab. I almost grabbed the mirrors. But finally realized the passenger door is gone.

Also, those 14" Alcoas in the first picture are in nice shape if anybody wants them. Canter caps are rough. Though I did tell a guy about the Alcoa while he was getting some steel 14" wheels from another Ranger to use on his utility trailer. But I could go back on Friday if somebody wants those wheels or any parts off the 2.9l in the 86.

Whadya say about snagging a frame for a 83-96 x-cab?

Inquiring minds and such.

I crawled all over a few today. Too much work to do by myself. If you want to come down, I'll help.
