Anybody else notice it takes 3-4 times as long to find why you’re looking for Amazon as opposed to driving to RadioShack, finding you’re adapter, paying for it and having it before you leave, and then driving home……. And not having to wait 2 or 3 days to get it…..

If only Radio Shack still existed.

People now want to shop from home and have everything handed to them with free shipping. Heaven forbid they had to walk into a store.

I prefer going to the store to see what it actually is I'm about to spend money on LOL.

I'm also one of the last holdouts of the brick and mortar society. I much prefer seeing an item before I purchase it, and I know Amazon is just peddling the same stuff from AliExpress. Hell, I don't recognize any of the brands on there anymore. The only reason I buy from them at this point is if I can't find it anywhere else.

I miss Radio Shack, but there's still MicroCenter!

While that is true, I've noticed a couple items on EBay that are listed as "US Stock" with a very english sounding seller name that as soon as you make payment it's all in chinese characters and shipping from a port city. It takes a week to ship and arrives in a speedpak mailer from china. Feels like EBay is helping chinese sellers hide and avoid tariffs to me.

We use Amazon for some stuff but we look closely at review comments and country of origin when it's listed. Their search function is crap for sure.

This thread is how I found out Radio Shack didn't go totally out of business almost a decade ago.

I think there are a ton of people who would rather buy stuff in-store. But brick-and-mortar slowly lost its advantage of having what you need on the shelf right now.
It's a vicious cycle of online competition shrinking margins -> can't afford to keep as many products stocked -> no benefit over online -> lose another customer.

I think some companies have handled it better than others, but I wonder if it was eventually inevitable.

Amazon is like every other adaptation, good and bad.

Use it wisely, it's a fine tool. Use it wrong, learn from it.

Radio Shack is still in business??

I can't complain about Amazon. When I was in PA bringing TRS back to life to take to the 20th anniversary, nobody anywhere near there had Cooper STT PROs. The best deal I could find anywhere was from Amazon, and I got 6-months same as cash on top of it. I've gotten my off-road lights and winches from there too. I can't just go to my O'Reilly Auto Parts and pick up a Smittybilt winch.

A lot of major company's have stores on Amazon.

Last summer I bought a portable fan from Amazon to keep my dog cool in the back seat, and the damn thing won't take a USB charge. I need to see if I can bypass the USB charger and just plug it in with a chord. Other than that, I've had good luck.

When I lived in DFW I could order something in the morning and have it by evening, or the next day.

I recently needed a new fan motor for my freezer. Nobody stocked one. The appliance repair places could order one. Amazon could deliver one the next day.

Now, I'm not one of those people that have my groceries delivered and I don't mind shopping, but there are somethings that I need that I'm thankful for Amazon for.

I'm so old I remember when Radio Shack sold home stereo equipment!

I use AMZ more than I should, but I work a weird schedule (24-hour shifts), I generally dislike people, and I really dislike WallyWorld.

I try to avoid alphabet soup "brands" on AMZ and eBay.

Most of the "Ships from US" sellers ship from "City of Industry, CA" which is nothing but warehouses and distribution centers just East of LA.

I looked it up one time, it has like 250 "residents" but employs 67,000 in something like 3,000 "businesses".

There are ways to filter and sort, but I haven't figured out a way to only get "real brands" on either.

Lots of knock-off stuff too, things branded and listed as "Motorcraft" or "Bosch" or "AC Delco" but when you get it you can tell it's not...
