Depending on the stereo you have, some have a bulb that can be replaced...I usually try the "Fonz" method first...bang it with my fist...this worked on my Tempo lights quite often, but eventually they had to be replaced...
The stereo isn't hard to remove in most cases...remove the trim and pull out the bracket holding it in...the light is usually on the top side if there is one...if you have a removeable face plate type you may need to remove it and clean the contacts...
Edit: Ooops...the 2000 may be installed differently than my 88...if you have one of the newer stereos there are four holes in the sides of it and these are release access holes...stuff a small screwdriver or the special tool they have for this purpose and the stereo slides out...
