Radiator Stop Leak

All stop leak does is mask a problem that needs fixing. Once the problem is fixed the stop leak is still in the coolant system. With no leak in the system the stop leak settles and then creates hot spots in heads and blocks, also can plug up small coolant passages that can be essential to keeping things cool. Usually it accumulates in the heater core and rots it out. I don't recommend it at all.

Well I called around to the local junk yards yesterday and found one that had my radiator, $35 if I take it out myself, not a bad deal.

So anyways just going to replace the radiator, was looking and it should be too hard, biggest problem is the supports for the radiator are rusted beyond belief (Purchased truck 9 months ago for $500 because it wouldn't pass NY inspection, I live in Ohio).

So as a friend said, time to fix the supports with some pressure treated :-)

And to think of all the fun I could have had....

:idiot:

Wait...i did get to have some of the fun...

:icon_twisted:

Let me know how the reinforcing goes....I was looking at my rad. support and it isn't looking too healthy, either.

Hey, I have big saws and big hammers, what could go wrong?

Just think simple_serf, if I break something you get to come out and help me fix it :-)

used it in my aluminum radiator for a pin hole made by vibrating mud clods that was 2 yrs ago still holding up

If you are driving a beater with a heater you only paid 500 for why not try a 10-20 dollar fix before dumping a few hundred into something that probably isn't worth that much?

I have read allot about K&W and not all these people can be full of crap. One thing I did notice with K&W though was that it had better results when left in and drove for 500 miles or so (compression leak into cooling system) I might be a little worried about leaving it it that long with water in oil problem though.

Are you 100% sure the radiator has a leak? Its not a chewed up hose or something? Be sure before you get into all that work,.

Lol...you guys realize this thread was started in 2008??
