race truck winterization

I just read through Original_Ranger84's thread on winterization. I will be putting the race truck away for the first time this winter. I run straight water...rules, you know. What's the best way to drain the rad so there isn't a chance of cracking the block? Anything else I can't think of at 3:30 am?

pull the lower hose off the radiator pop the fill cap and pull the thermostat to drain the block also. If you drill a small hole in the thermostat then all you need to do is pull the hose and pop the cap. Or you can put a block heater in it but if you have a power outage and it hard freezes you could be in trouble.

When you drain the radiator, there is still coolant in the lower part of the block. If you don't have a block drain you may have to install them or remove the engine and pour out the trapped coolant. I guess another option would be to pull the top hose off of the block and pour some antifreeze in there to blend with the water. You would just have to flush well before the next season starts.

Can you show me a pic of a typical 4.0l drain plug and it's location?
I'm also replacing the thermostat, [I'm having a slight heat problem and it may not be opening enough] and I'll make sure there is a hole in it for winter.

my first thought was what gw said,put antifreeze in it for the winter,flush it in the spring.it's cheap insurance-especially where you live.

I would fill the system with antifreeze. Besides freezing, it'll rust inside if you leave it empty.
