quieter/more backpreassure needed

hey yall, just bolted up a flowmaster super 40 or 44(i dont know or care for the price) and its just so damn loud, its a 3" inlet/outlet and a 2" reducer for the inlet, should i reduce the outlet,
i want to quiet it down allot too, mabe some type of mesch screen mabe

what should i do,
3" out
reduce to 2" out
mesch screen
mabe weld up a 1.5"disc with 3 arms at the outlet?
i stuck my hand over the outlet and it was loud enough for me and it quieted it allot for my dad...

any ideas, im lost, o and this is on my 88 ranger with a 2.9 in my sig

Does your truck have cats? It shouldn't be as loud as you're describing with a tail-pipe and cats.

+1 my thoughts exactly my super 44 on my 3,0 ranger isnt that loud then the cat got taken off (plugged up) and it sounded awful. still on there cuz the trk died but it wasnt helping any i can assure you of that. if you go 2 1/4 pipe the whole way (after the cat) and then to your muffler then dump over the axle and a short 3 inch tip you should be fine w/o huge amounts of noise and actually sound pretty good.

it has the single oem cat, a foot of pipe and the muffler, thats it, the resonating is so loud i cant stand it

Also if the exhaust is exiting directly under the truck, which sounds like what your description is,

it will be louder. So add some pipe to run it all the way out the back.
The Gibson on my Sport Trac was a little loud for my taste INSIDE the truck, I got a chrome resonator tip at AutoZone for about $25 that helped some.

make sure u have no leaks and run it out the back it should help muffle it a bit. i have no cat and and a 3aracing muffler over the axle and out the back and its not to loud.
