Quick transmission question help me out please.

I found a Auto transmission thats out of a 2003 4.0 4x4 ranger and i own a 1999 4.0 4x4. This is what I got so far i know that some are 4 speed auto and 5 speed auto. I also looked at this Ford Ranger Automatic Transmission Identification on this site and it says the transmission will work but then from ford the guy says it wont because they are completly different transmissions. can some one clear this up for me. will it work or not? I need to know by today so i can get the transmission.

They are in fact very similar transmissions. One is a 4R44, one is a 5R44 (or 5R55E). The guts are all very similar. The biggest difference is the computer program that runs them.

There may be other changes that need to be made. Valve bodies swapped and such, but those are relatively minor.
