quick question

my ranger has 215/75/15's on it right now (stock, or how it came to me at least).... don't have a spare

so i went to the junkyard and picked up a 235/75/15... will I be able to run that, or will it cook my suspension and stuff?


it's a spare, so in a perfect world i wouldn't be on it for more than a few miles, if that.


but say something were to happen on the highway (i travel back and forth for school), could i drive on it?

sure you can, as far as i knew thats what they came with from the factory but i guess im wrong. 235s are great for a stock ranger, you wont have any problems

If you have an lsd on the rear it will not like different size tyres on it and will probably burn out the clutches in it. If it's an open diff, it's not ideal but it should be ok for short distances at reasonable speeds.

As long as its only a little driving at slower speeds it will be fine. Compact spares on cars were a lot smaller than stock (the only reason it says not to drive above 45mph is because of the difference in size)

The 235/75 vs 215/75 circumference is about +3.75". So revolutions (of the tire) per mile is 30 less with the larger tire. The difference in amount of rotations/rotational speed is what will fry differentials, and transfer cases.

Like martin said if you have an LSD, you definitely only want to drive at low speeds on that spare to the shop, no further. If you have a locker, you can't run it at all (unless its just to push it to the other side of your driveway). If it has an open differential, it will be fine for around town driving for a few days.

on the note of the lsd vs locker vs open... which would i have? it is stock down to the bones.

you could use a different sized tire for a spare. just dont put it in 4wd, your gears, tranny, t-case, etc. wouldnt like it. i'd just use it on the front and leave it in 2wd if you're gonna use it. but, yeah, it'll fit for sure, i used to run 235's on my b2 stock, they only rubbed on the front sway bar at full lock.

or put the spare on the front and one of the fronts on the back so your drive wheels are still the same. if you don't have a LS then it really doesnt matter
