It's possible, but I think it's probably more likely to be in the coil sub-harness.

Unfortunately I'm not too terribly familiar with the mid-90s 3.0s. I don't see them a lot, even newer 3.0s. If I run across one in the next few days I will be sure to look though.

I think they did. I think the change was made around the years that you are dealing with too.
