this past xmas i wanted to do something special for my dad.

i was born in 1988 and i was my dad first born, so he sold all his toys. so i hunted down the same bike he use to have before i was born. a 1988 cr125r.

it started august 8th...sorry i dont have all the pics though the build..

when i got it, it was junk!! but it was complete with a somewhat complete parts bike. the engine was locked up, all the plastics where spray painted black, seat was ripped, tires didnt hold air...the list goes on

so i stripped it down to the bare frame and had it sand blasted then painted it black(stock color was red)

i rebuildt the engine and hand sanded all the plastics down to the stock red color then cleared them..had to polished the tank.

he was so shocked on xmas morning, i gave him a toy honda dirtbike with a note that said "i wanna ride"..lol then i told him to go look in the garage.

after a few months riding it we bored it .60 over with a rejetted carb and a new used pro circuit pipe.

Thats awesome! You did a great job!

yeah, nice work. i'd love to ride one of those things, but i know it would result in me dying lol

great job man! i restored 2 lt80's for my kids, one question tho, how is the sanded/cleared plastic holding up? any fading or anything?

its doing great, i did it to the tank but the tank is pouris(spelling) so the fuel made it bubble. so 1500 grit and plastic polish worked great.

i painted one tank once, the very next day it had herpes, so yea i understand that!

but the plastics look as good as mint oem or pretty close and actually hold up? thats amazing, i gotta give that a try.

they have been doing great. give it a try, i used interior(for your car)clear coat from advanced auto

Thats an awesome gift for your dad, I plan to get mine an EB one day. I might swap my 429 into it too for some extra fun

Great gift! I wanna do something like that for my dad one day, even though he already has a Jeep like he used to.

Those CR500s just look like animals, I would shit myself riding one....

dude, the 500 is no joke. my buddy has raced 450 4 strokes since 05 and he wont push the bike to its limit....but i really hate starting it
