I'm planing my drop for this spring, either a 3/4 w/beams and exp rear or 5/6 adding drop springs in front and shackle flip in rear. I already have the explorer rear, I'm in process of refreshing now. What I need to know is; What shocks? I'm hesitant to use "drop shock" because I don't who actually makes them. I'd feel much more confident buying from a name brand mfg like Monroe, bilstein, koni... Any thoughts on this?

Thanks
Pat

You can use stock length shocks up front. The beams do not change shock length and the coils will only give you 2". If the difference is more then 2", thats when you need different lengths. I am running KYB MonoMax's up front. I love them, worth every penney. I want to get their GR2's for the back, they are a little softer. I just have to spend some time in a book or know someone who will. It's all about extended and compressed lengths. They say the drop shocks are valved differently, which means to me stiffer. I think there are better shocks to use then any of the drop shocks I have tried.

Me too. Napa stores have a catalog with detailed breakdown on every shock they make--ask em to let you look thru it (find a car with similar ride height as your vehicle & cross-reference the Napa shocks--Napa even makes the same shocks with different upper/lower mounting points, or you could mod. the upper mounting points on your vehicle to make the "car" shocks fit...etc blah-blah & so on.....
