question wiring new lights

i understand everything in this diagram exept where the fuse box is and where to put the fuse that they give you

It looks like they're telling you to get your switch's power from the truck's fusebox. You should place the fuse and holder that they give you right at the source of power for the relay's pin #87; in the diagram that would be at the truck's battery.

k cool, do you know where the fuse box is on 88 ranger, i think its underneath the steering wheel... ? maybe idk

On my 89 its under the dash on the left side.

Yeah; on a 1st gen undo the 2 plastic inserts at the bottom, and then slide the metal panel down below the steering column to expose the fusebox.

ok one more question, what amp fuse should i use when i hook it up to the fusebox to the switch.....my switch is rated at 12/v 20 Amp so i guess lower than that

you should be fine with a 20amp. all your switch does it send power to the relay. the relay turns on your lights. I would run 10 gauge wire from the relay to the lights and and fuse the lights as well.

having trouble on finding an open spot on my fuse box that i can plug into

you should have a spare (spare circuit) if not tap the cigarette lighter or run the power for your switch from the battery.

got them installed, they work....so im happy that i dont have to go back through my wiring and check it, thanks for all the help... i ended up just wiring it to the cigarette lighter because i didn't know where to wire it to the fusebox.. thanks alot once again
