So, this is the inside of the radio panel in my 99 Ranger. It had an aftermarket radio installed in it before I even purchased it, and the radio itself ultimately wasn’t even working before I bought the truck.

I finally pulled off the cover to see the situation with the wiring (since I plan on putting a factory radio inside the truck at some point).

I plan to get a new dash harness with radio connectors already on it. Are there any major differences with radio connectors throughout the years for a 1999 Ford Ranger stereo, or should I just buy a straight 1999 3.0 Ranger dash harness for the radio?

Is that not the factory connector just to the left of center in that picture?

Where the Grey, Purple, Green, And White wires are. That should just unplug leaving the factory harness.

I'm kind of new to all of today's vehicle technology.
I'm also pretty new to what you most likely consider old vehicles technology.

I spent 20 years in prison and just got out in June.
One of the best things I learned about here on TheRangerStation is about the Ford Ranger EVTM.
EVTM = Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual.
You can most likely buy 1 for your truck on eBay.
I got mine for my 94 for $30.00 all said and done.

Now with that said I'm willing to bet that the advice that @SenorNoob just posted in post 2 of your thread here is on the mark.

Good to know! I did not know if the factory connectors were still in the harness! Thought it was some crazy splice and dicing but wasn't completely sure!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely check it out for my truck year. I do like picking up literature/repair manuals for whatever vehicles I have.

Yeah, that looks like an adapter harness plugged in, I’d unplug that and see what it looks like. Dash harness should be the same within your year no matter the motor I think. The only possible things I can think of is there may be a difference 2wd/4x4 and there may or may not be a “premium sound” difference. But I don’t think you need to go through that hassle.
