Question about the sploder 8.8 swap

I hate how this is confusing the hell out of me, why im not sure. I hate to ask but how dumbed down can this be put for me??? What parts off what have to be used so that the original 7.5 shaft can be used on the 8.8 rear end without drilling the pinion flange? I guess thats what I have been asking.

Sorry if I sound like a pain in the ass about this but once I know it will be easier to help other out and not have them deal with the problem once they get to that point.

I just showed you, with pictures. And lets stop referring to it as 7.5 or 8.8, the small pattern ended in 89, the large pattern started in 90 on both the 7.5 and 8.8. To convert a small pattern driveshaft into a large pattern driveshaft, you need a large pattern flange yoke. You can get one from a 90+ ranger. Or you can buy one new. Spicer part# 2-2-1379. Verify your U-joint size, it should be 1310, that's 3.219" cap to cap.

Gottcha, just keep ranger with ranger and exploder with exploder when it comes to using the ujoints due to they are the same size. So if I put an 8.8 in my truck then I have to grab the ujoint flange off a ranger and the ranger one will go right on to my current driveshaft while sizing up to the 3 inch blot pattern and If I get an 8.8 out of an exploder then still grab the ujoint flange made for a ranger that has the 3 nich pattern.

The thing that was confusing me was the ujoint sizes but seeing the rangers all have the same size no matter if they have the 2.5 or 3 inch flange, that makes it easier.

I have a friend that will be giving me his 7.5 rear end sometime when he puts his 8.8 in and since his is a 90+ ranger, all I will have to do is get a 3 inch ranger ujoint flange for my driveshaft and I will be good.

Actually, Rangers can have any of 1210, 1310, or 1330 series ujoints.

If your truck has the itty-bitty 1210 joints, your only option is to redrill the pinion flange (there is no 1210 large pattern flange yoke). I would suggest replacing your driveshaft with something stronger if you have those tiny u-joints.

If you have 1310 joints (I think all '88-'97 Ranger), then the piece Hahns has mentioned is what you need ('91-'97 for the 1310 large pattern one)

Well that just makes shit a bit more complicated for me but until I need to change my rearend then I wont worry to much I guess. Mine does have new ujoints on it so I should be fine.

Thanks guys! Noted. The help is much appreciated:icon_cheers:

Sorry for the dumb questions..... but...

I have my 31 spline ready to go under the truck, but was wondering if there were any differences between extended cab two piece drive lines, depending on year. I know it has to be from a 91 and up 4.0 or anything with the 8.8, but were certain years different? There is no returns at the junk yard, and I don't want to F myself. Ha ha.

Also, I'm getting rid of my lift blocks, and putting the stock 2" blocks back under it. Anyone know what U-bolts will work? Or do I have to get them custom made? The u-bolts off the explorer, looked quite short, so I didn't pick them up.

Thanks in advance!

some are narrower the others. im running a 92 axle from a ranger, its 3 inches narrower. theaxles are basicaly the same.

as for u bolts, go to ford and order 4x4 u bolts, as the 4x4 have those block in there.

Thanks dude. Ha ha. It's the simplest, and most common sense driven answer, yet, no one, including myself thought of it! Ha ha ha. Thanks again.
