My truck is a 2007 sport and i wanted to know what the pro's and con's would be for switching my 4.10's to 3.73's

worse accelleration with the 3.0

pro- better highway cruiser

con- more stress on tranny, slow excelleration, etc.

do you have a certain reason?

i just thought 4.10's were a bit much for a 2wd 3.0 and at 80 mph im at 3000rpms and what do you mean by more stress on tranny?

Nah, not for the 3.0

If you really want, make your next set of tires slightly larger than the stock ones, that will lower your RPMs a little. I have 265/75-16s and I run about 70-72MPH at around 2500rpm.

by the time i need new tires im going to have 18's on there so that wont make much of a diff i was just thinking it would be better to have slightly lower gears.

Lower gears in the diffs = less stress on the tranny because its 'easier' for it to turn the tires

It came from the factory that way for a reason. A 3.0 can spin 3,000 RPM all day long and be just fine and dandy.

Agreed. 3000 RPM is nothing for the 3.0L. You may actually lose some MPG if you go shallower on the gears.

Your 4.10s are fine. My g/f's 2008 Ranger came with 4:10s, and it has a 4.0L.

since everyone agree's the 4.10's are fine i'm going to leave them thanks for your help

I didn't say that 3.73's would be easier to turn, I said the 4.10's would be easier.
