Question about driveshafts.


Come to think of it, my buddy's 94 has a different crossmember than my '88. He removed his and moved the carrier bearing lower.... I don't remember how but it involved welding. Lol.
 
I bet your idea is cheaper. Junkyard parts are a lot better deal then something brand new.



Not if you go the the wreckers around here! $160 for 2 pieces of aluminum. the 96-00 5.0L explorer alternator and compressor brackets.
 
I think you can just remove that cross-member.

There seems to be differing opinions on the cross member and it's structural purpose.

The tech note states:
"Complete removal is not recommended (it is a structural frame component)."

Yet many have stated they removed it without any issues.
