Well, long story short, I had regeared Dweanos truck, well the rear axle at least, to 4.56. I hadnt had time until now, so I have his truck in my shop. Its easier if I just post up pics here, than try and email them all individually lol.

So took the wheels off, took the hubs off, took the caliper/rotors off...this is what I found:

dweano018.jpg

that is why you torque the outer nut to 250 ft lbs, so they DONT do this, Hes just lucky I found it like this before something bad happened.

removed spindles, and took out axleshafts

dweano019.jpg

dweano020.jpg

the drivers side shock mount had broken, so Dweano had this as a temporary fix

dweano021.jpg

I couldnt let the truck leave my shop like that, so I cut it apart, and cut a bolt up.

dweano037.jpg

welded it in place

dweano038.jpg

and ground smooth, much better haha.

dweano039.jpg

the u joints were shot in the axleshafts

dweano023.jpg

so I put new 5-760x joints in all 3 joints

dweano025.jpg

and clearenced the slip so it wouldnt bind as easy

dweano040.jpg

and did an E-clip eliminator

dweano024.jpg

and painted the shafts

dweano035.jpg

front diff was full of water haha, time for breather extensions eh buddy!

dweano022.jpg

pulled the pig, and pulled the carrier and pinion

dweano028.jpg

dweano033.jpg

removed all the old seals and bearings

dweano032.jpg

cleaned up the pig, and shot a coat of paint

dweano034.jpg

and painted the beams

dweano041.jpg

tomorrow Ill set up the new gears in the pig, and maybe start to put it back together.

Wow. First off...I would like to say. Hi everyone...my name is Dweano...and I approve this thread.

Second: Nathan you are a machine. This amount of work would have taken me like...a week and I just dropped it off yesterday. Haha

Third...that bungie cord held my shock on good!! hahaha

Fourth...wow my front end is a piece...everything was falling apart. Thank goodness for these upgrades!

Fifth..Breather hose extension will happen (actually I have a piece of hose in my cup holder thing just for that...I just remembered. I was going to do that but then I figured I would wait until I have all this done haha

Very nice work Nathan. I concur, Dweano is lucky you're working on his rig. I need to do U-joints in mine, and this thread just reminded me. I have some 5-760x joints just waiting. I just need some time.

haha thanks guys, but Im not doing this for free, but am for a reasonable fee.

Brendan stopped by and gave me hand with the setup, always easier with 2 sets of hands holding shims/getting carrier into place.

Dweano had brought me a spare carrier that had a lockright in it...went to take out the locker, and the cross pin was WELDED in place, fought for the better part of an hour, but got it out...

this is why they say BE CAREFUL with the PLATE drop brackets...theres a ding in the pumpkin, its not through the housing, the housing is okay, but if it hits hard again it might destroy it.

dweano003.jpg

dweano004.jpg

got the carrier bearings changed

dweano001.jpg

and after setup, put new seals, and pounded in the new pinion races, and new pinion seal

dweano007.jpg

dweano009.jpg

new pinion bearings, oil slinger

dweano008.jpg

and setup

dweano012.jpg

tomorrow Ill put the rest of the seals in the pig, and put it all back together.

peace.

Good job nathan, when ya doin mine? haha

Wanna set up my rocks?

haha if you guys werent all so far away Id be willing to give you a hand.

i try not paint shitty shafts without sand/soda blasting first...

better off wire wheeling with a grinder and dipping/soaking in urethane if you cant blast.

add a drain too...they like to fill up with water even with the breather extended

I usually just left my D35 shafts unpainted, cause I knew they were probably going to snap the next time I went out wheeling anyways. :thefinger:

What kind of idiot welds that in. Thats what I want to know. The same one that sends a diff out with a chipped ring gear...thats what. Haha. I am so glad you got it out tho. Locked and loaded!

Also is that pic of the metal chipping to the inside? Its not flaking off or anything? The pumpkin is still structurally sound? I think I will take that bracket off and grind it down maybe. But I guess if it just bumped up with the 4 inch lift...adding six inch lift coils should a lil right?

And yes everyone. I am super lucky to know Nathan...super nice guy and super knowledgeable as well. The quality of work is top notch and he is charging me less that what a shop would (shops would destroy my dwindling bank account). I recommend him to everyone. Haha. Also thanks to Brendan for helping out!

The pumpkin is fine. There's no risk of that chipping off inside.

But you should take care of that lift bracket. It's just a matter of time before it causes some real damage.

Yep I will try to do that asap. Also I will put a longer breather hose in so my diff doesn't fill up with water again haha. I need front end lessons...I know like nothing about bearings and spindles and...whatever else is in there
