putin a 2.9 in a 84 ? help me im new!

im new to the whole truck seen to start off... i got a 84 ford ranger with a 85 2.8 in it but the motor is tosted... i paid 500 bucks and put 1200 miles on it as it is and im goin through oil faster then the gas... so i heard from another guy to come over here and you guys have some good information on this...

the trans i have has the Over drive... i cant rember what one it is...

they told me that i should throw a 2.9 with FI in it but i would need some computer and a harness...

how would i mount up the harness? would it go all the way through the tail lights and all that?

would the 2.9 bolt right up?

any help would be great! post pics... there great!

2.9 Problems

After the 2.9 in my 4x4 blew I heard alot of bad things about it. I had the heads rebuilt though and it worked for along time after that till I hit a light pole.

I just put the new steering gear in and am ready to pull the dent out.

get a donor truck to rob the fuel system and engine compartment stuff.you shouldn't have to mess with the dash or body harness to get it in there.
yes it will bolt in but a 4.0 swap would be just as easy and finding a good motor will be easier too...

so what would be my best bet... i race quads and my money goes in to the ATV... i also have a chevy scottsdale with a 6 in. lift with 33's... and it gets like 8mpg...

i want a 4x4 gas sipper...

a 4.0 swap would be just as easy and finding a good motor will be easier too...

what size was the 4.0? and what years? how much are they?

do they make a Fi 4 cyl?

same size block as a 2.9l, its like a 260 vrs. a 302.same bell pattern and motor mounts.search the engine swap forum here for other peoples builds and look in the tech library in the TRS header for some info on the different engines

yeah i checked over there but it didnt give me much help about doing the swap... it just gave me information about the motors and stuff... and the one wasnt there...
