I'm pretty sad that I can't get a 2.3L Supercab truck up here in Canada but it occurs to me that it should be quite possible to put my 2.3L regular cab engine into a supercab.

Of course, since I'm buying a new truck, I wouldn't do this anytime soon, but 5 years from now when my ass gets a bit fatter, the truck is paid off, the warranty has fully expired, the price of gas is $2.50/L, and I'm utterly frustrated with the limited space in the regular cab, I know there will be a ton of used supercab trucks available (there is already, up here in B.C.) and it occurs to me that maybe I can pick one up and swap the engines.

Maybe it's a totally impractical idea, but any idea how much labor this would be? Would I just need to get someone to swap the engines, or would other parts need to be swapped, too? (both manual transmissions, btw).

I used to have a 4wd 2.3 supercab with 5" of lift and 33's..... as long as its geared right it will be okay, pretty gutless at highway speeds tho.

If you are going from a 6 cylinder to a 4 cylinder, the transmission bolt pattern is different, as is the trans gearing, the computer is different, the exhaust is different. You will need appropriate gearing in both differentials to keep reasonable acceleration and power, assuming 2wd to 4wd.
An interesting project....
