Puddles of coolant on top of motor? *PIC INSIDE*

i guess i will have to examine it better tomarrow..if it is the intake gaskets how hard of a job is it to replace them? do i need to remove the valve covers to get to any of the bolts?

Its not a hard job but you do need to remove the valvecovers as the top bolts for them attach to the lower intake, not the heads.

i already have the intake manifold off...and both valve covers just trying to diagnose the problem...

I'm interested in the progress of this project. When you put it back together DON'T go with the permatorque gasket by felpro unless you can get the intake gaskets to stay perfectly straight. They're two seperate gaskets that don't connect in the middle. They can and will move in effect causing a leak. You'll get screwed up values on the injectors cuz it's gonna probably suck oil into one of the cylinders. Using permatex on the gaskets isn't a good idea either. It's going to raise it up some... not good.
Least this is what happened to me with the 4.0 I just rebuilt in my exploder. I changed to the regular felpro gaskets that has a front and rear seal and that was that. An intake leak made a carbon build up in the cylinders and a rap with it was the reason I rebuilt the thing to begin with. I guess it just was so used to being that way it was... oh boy!

well i got everything back together and ran two new heater lines...nothing leaks anymore...i think the coolant line that runs to the manifold from the heater cores was busted at the manifold side resulting in the coolant leak..oh well everything is clean and running good now. thanks for all the help!

i have an 89 and my brother in law is a ford mechanic he has a 88 ranger and both of ours have leaks in the thermostat. i think he mentioned putting some kind of seal behind it
