Proper sub set up...

Will look into those, my speakers try to put out the bass that they cant handle and that my radio cant keep from them, doesnt have a sub setting on it.

hey, throw the box, amp and all ur wires in the trash immediattely, build a mdf enclosure built to the subs specs, then get a kicker amp and wires. then it will sound great. wat headunit do u have??

Ya I dont have that kind of money. I can see rebuilding the box but why throw out the rest when theres no reason to? Im working with limited space due to its a regular cab truck and very limited funds right now.

As far as head unit, it was said, its a cheap walmart cd player but my amp was ones powered by a stock radio and pushed a 12 inch one just fine all in a chevy astro van.

i cant really see the amp settings in the pic very well, but there should be a filter switch on it that will change your frequency out put. if you put the amp to the low frequency setting and set the gain in the middle of its range youll get a good base setting for what your sub can put out, from there your remaining adjustments are going to be made in the radio. is there a model # written on the front of your CD player anywhere? i know you say its a cheap walmart HU but thats all ive ever bought (ive never spent over $150 on one; sony, pioneer, kenwood, and dual are the ones ive owned), if you can post up a pic of the amp settings (the dials or switches that are on it) and of the face of the head unit, we should be able to help you get the most bang for your buck!

Okay to bring this thread back to life, what would be a good bass blocker range be, for example 0-500mHz for my speakers that I dont want to act like a sub. Looked them up and they are pretty cheap in price so Im not losing much on them.

The only adjustment that my amp has is gain and it goes from 0.2v - 5v. I have it set mid way and sounds nice but as said above, I need bass blockers to help out. I also need to check my box for leaks too still. Just been so busy lately that I havent had time to do anything.

well here i am runing two 12" memphis pr's on a 1400 watt crunch amp. btw this is in a 1999 single cab ranger i took the box that was made for two 10" subs. i just cut the holes bigger and added a spacer. to fit better. but anyways i would buy a new sub box and if your sub should only have 2 plugs on the back of it (where your wires go) and i would retune it. what you do is crank your system up or to where you like playing it at most (loudly) and tune your amp from there. that is how i tune all the systems at work. ( i work at a audio store) also make sure your running 8 gage wire from your battery to your amp. and i like using monster cable from the amp to the subs. some of the best wire ive used. and make sure your amp isnt cranked up the rms of the kickers are ually around 200 and max is usally around 400watts for the 10" and it also looks like you have another speaker in the box. if you do i would suggest taking that out and putting it in a seperate box. reason being is that it can acutally hurt the sound of the sub when it is using the airspace. and is worst comes to worst try porting the box at 3" and usig a port tube. and if that dosnt work you can always reseal the port back up. and also make sure you have no leaks in the box. i hope this helps some

im perty sure you cant just build a box and put a 3 inch tube port in there, i tried it when i had some ghetto systems and it sounded like poo. if you have any wood working skills at all you can build a nice box, id go with a sealed box in a single cab like that, dont put no other speakers in the box, make sure you seal it with silicone, have a buddy help ya if need be, you can make a decent box for under 50bucks where im at, id imagine that kicker is probally a single 4 ohm so you could run it bridged on that amp no problem, can you give us some more info on the sub?

sorry didnt realize there was 3 pages of this, if you go to sonicelectronix.com they have good deals on boxes, they have em that will fit right behind your seat and they are reasonably priced, youd probally get better sound if you got a better amp to, i think id rather have a sony than a rampage, just give it time and youll get it figured out, i only went through about a dozen different sub/amp combos before i got it the way i want it.:icon_thumby:

I know why it sounds like crud atm...it blew out a chunck of the box that had been put on it meaning thie box isnt sealed now. So money permitted, I will be making a new box for it soon. As for bass blockers, what is recommended hertz wise?
