Propane 4.0L?

if i was confused as to what engine i was working on i Should be shot or not allowed to have tools or keys in my hand. Women even know what engine they have n their car

I never said you were confused on what engine you have...
On a ligther note, im going to use a the intake hose, and have my adapter "t" into it, between the TB and MAF sensor. and setup the lingage to open the mixir and TB at the same time, Im going to leave the injectors in and let them dry fire, The hole in the injectors is too small for the propane

So let me make sure i understand this, your planning to dump propane into your air intake and hope it runs into the engine? How are you planning to stop it from leaking back into the open air when at a stoplight or idleing for excessive periods of time ( I realize this is a trail rig, but the question is still legit )?

How are the injector holes to small? Each line is only carrying 1/6 of the fuel required.

Do you have a link to the commercial systems?

If I'm understanding your idea of an adapter in a throttle body your confusing a 2.9L with the 4.0L...
:thefinger:

no im not going to simply shove a hose into my intake tube.... I may be a hillbilly but im not thaaaat greasy..

Its gona work. keep an eye on this thread and you will learn how to convert your 4.0l to pane. Ive taked to a few of my friends that are techs from the local ford dealership, a guy that specializes in pane injection systems, and My engine builder. all have come together to create a solution and its almost garunteed to work. all i have to do it try it.

You CANNOT run propane threw the stock injectors it will not work, propane injectors are more than twice the size of the stockers, it takes more propane vapour to run the engine tham liquid gasoline, so the injectors need a higher CFM to keep the engine runing at high rpms.

my Rig only sees a trailer, Rock faces, stumps, trees, dirt and 6000rpm. no traffic lights where I Wheel :)

oh and ive tore down and Fully built up a 2.9 only to rip it back out and throw it in the garbage, thats where they belong.

LMFAO....first off you obviously cant handle constructive critisism. Are you only here for a pat on the back and a good job....here you go :

"Good job I look forward to seeing this complete" and yeah i do mean that.

That being said, You said you were going to T it in did you not? If you T the propane into your intake, well you are sitting still or at an idle the propane will not necessarily be 100% drawn into the engine. If you do this and incorporate some sort of a backflow damper/valve you will cut off the air to your engine and it will stall. The question was still lefit about a stop light scenerio, if you had read what i wrote you would understand that it is a legit question in any STOPPED position, be it a stop light, on the trail, etc. To simply say it will work....isnt enough to say the least.

Again you did not read, my post earlier said I didn't think stock injectors would work. HOWEVER, as I previously said, to inject propane into each cylinder only requires 1/6 of the overall fuel per cyl. How big is your main supply line? The only propane system I've seen or been around is a forkilift and the line from that might have been 1.5". Stock injector holes are only 1/2"-3/4" arent they? even call then 1/4" holes, use a (very) rough calculation (1/4" X 6 ) 1.5"......... How big are propane injectors? Size wise?

Regardless, with your stock injectors, are you planning to cap them off or just leave them in place? In place and run dry they will surely fail causing leakage.

oh and ive tore down and Fully built up a 2.9 only to rip it back out and throw it in the garbage, thats where they belong

.....I suggested using a 2.9block rebored,etc and using 4.0L components in it....
I should throw this in here to...When I tore down and rebuilt my first 4.0 it destroyed itself....I screwed up when rebuilding it......does that mean all 4.0L are garbage? lol.......lol.....

Remember your the one who wants to keep your driveline. Also I dont remember which post, but you didn't want to use an adapter plate between an 8 and your 5speed, why? I know you said you blow them apart,etc....but considering they're the same tranny other than bolt pattern ( someone correct me if I'm wrong here...they're listed as the same at the wreckers where I live ). you should be fine running with an adapter plate.

Before I forget, do you have links to those systems for the 4.0L, I didn't find anything on a search on google....

I look forward to seeing pics of the build process. Have a  and chill a bit....some other users critisim isn't worth getting worked up over.

Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics. even if you win your still retarded..... Im a pretty chill guy so i dont understand how u think i could be mad at words on the computer especially on a holiday like today..?

obviously on a site where theres 10,000+ members, theres gone be many poeple that are interested to see how it works, and offer great help and suggestions and there aslways the few that have no idea what there talking about and want to pick u apart anyway.

My rig is not street legal and drivin hard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SCNtQEA5JM&feature=related
my race around the 2 min 25 second mark is me blowing traany #2 u can hear it, This was the only trans thats failed internally. I have broken multiple trans outputs with 4.0L so i personally woul not run it behind a v.8

Im not saying its everythings going to bolt on and work, or ill shove a hose in my intake and drive it if it runs... theres obviosly going to be bugs to work out of it as with anything custom, you need to research, (or know) how propane systems work, and read my full posts, before you can offer any real constructive critisizm, or be the pecimist of the group and try and find every little reason on why you think it wont work and call it that.. my friends who are helping me with this have worked for ford for 17 and 20 years, they have worked on several hopped up propane injected diesels and, and propane injected engines. Sam at Superior Race engines and Rebuilders, helped me build my 2.9, and hop up my current 4.0L. He sponsors my Ranger and does my motor work. hes been in buisneuss for 45 years

I Value your opinions, but they are just that opinions. And are way beyon constructive critisism, im not a fast typer wanting a pat on the back dude thats for fags..., im gona do it becasue i want to keep current motor like said., and i figured with all the ranger nUts on this site someone may have tried something like it before and could offer suggestions, i will post lots of pictures of everything i do and describe allt he pros and cons of how it runs. and if it doesnt u can glady post "i told you so...." if u need to... But my engine builder is 100% confident it will work and he said he can help with with a few steps, worst case would be install my Full roller 460 big block and put the propane to that, and have to run with a single tcase this year instead of 2, I run 44'' tires, and comp Wheel, so having dual t's is almost a necessity to me which is why im gona make this work, so i can save up $$ for drivetain for the v8 next year. enough reading?:D

I think u need one of these  Cheers :icon_cheers:

the real trick will be getting it to run with the stock ignition and with the fuel injection part removed. but im up for a challenge.

ok, fair enough....i have read your posts, and i have researched how these systems work. unfortunatly there isnt a lot of info out there on the 4.0l's. You still If it does and you blow yourself up there wont be anyone to continue to report back to the rest of us on how well it works... thats not critisism, thats a safety issue.

As to your computer issue, reprogram it. You can get kits online, there are a few homebrew setups as well as downloadable mapping, etc. That would be the cheap way to go... fairly simple if i remember, there are some posts from a few years back on this. You could also set up some sort of a timing circut, What year is your truck? If it's old enough its more than likely batch fired, so only 2 circuts to worry about essentially....i think reprogramming would be a better idea.

Watched that vid, where in BC was that?

Well there might not be much info. on this kind of thing, so its time to make info. on this. I wanna see how this all works out.

I'm really, REALLY enjoying this thread!

During the day when I'm feeling a little down, I turn to this thread to get a little grin going. After reading a few posts I'm back up again and good to go back to work.
Branger when you get this all resolved you need to apply to NASA! I understand they are looking for a new space vehicle.. If you get this done you will be just the guy they they need.
Big JIm :hottubfun::wub:

slight derail.

I once saw Live, not secondhand or in a video, a taxi blow its hood right off on a bad propane conversion. The fireball was a good 3 stories high with a hood at the top floating around.

At the time I was on my bike with a bunch of other guys.

Everyone was making sure the hood wasn't going to come down on their bike! Including me.

Firetrucks showed up but the good news is the the blast used all the propane in the one blow and nothing really caught fire. Oh and the hood landed on a flat top of a nearby building causing no damage. Except to itself on landing.

Like said before, im not planning on mounting a BBQ tank on the back and running the hose to my intake, rather install a complete propane system that was certified on the truck i pulled it off of, and the truck ran great.. its not old equipment, even the tanks were manfufactured in 2002.

The intake is done, has beeen made from aluminum, no injector holes.. and a mount ontop for a mixer carb, i havent had time to install it on the engine, IT also features a removable top plate, so i can have another plate made to run a 2 barrel carb, 4barrel carb, GM TBI, Propane, Kinda funny, Sam at the engine shop even suggested a plate to mount a 671 blower...

going to remove the fuel injection side of the wiring and if the ingntion works, ill leave it that way, i can also adjust the timing slightly by changing from Auto to manual computer. Not sure whats in there now.

If th is fails ive also been looking into swapping to an oil pump and drive from a 2.9, and a duraspark dizzy from a 2.8. and run a seperate ignition. as soon as i get the intake mounted ill snap some pictures
