Long overdue update
Well it has been a really long time since I have update this thread. A lot has happened since Aug 2013 haha. I have completed school and since moved to Halifax NS; some 450 km away from my shop and this build, to start a new job. This has slowed but not stopped the project. The job is in fact good for the project as I can now afford the parts needed to really start putting things together!
On to the truck. The actual build progress hasn't budged but I have managed to acquire the last few drivetrain parts I needed. I had been on the hunt for a Ford married NP203 for use with my doubler as I want to try and keep my drive lines as short as possible. Well these might as well be unicorns in my area. I did; after extensive searching, manage to find a Ford divorced 203 and snatched it up. What's really weird is that in all my travels looking for a 203, everyone seemed to have a different opinion on which unit, divorced or married, was harder to find. Regardless I finally got one. I then managed to source a 31-spline 203 input gear on ebay so that I can convert my divorced unit to a married unit.
So in terms of parts, I now have:
- 5.8L EFI ready to go back in the truck.
- C6 with the 5.75" adapter needed to mount the NP203 ready to go back in the truck.
- NP203 w/31-spline input gear (needs to be dismantled down to the reduction box, input gears swapped and input mating surface of the case decked and 6 bolt patterned drilled and tapped.
- NP205 (needs to be removed from 79 bronco it currently resides in and rails need to be modified for twin stick operation).
- King Pin D60 (needs overhaul and conversion to SRW hubs)
- Sterling 10.25 currently still in the truck. (Disc Conversion)
I am hoping to start to assemble the 203/205 doubler sometime this spring, I plan on going with the Northwest Fab kit and there triple stick shifters:
http://www.northwestfab.com/ There are a couple of reasons for choosing this kit, I like the clockability and reclockability feature and they are also a Canadian company which means that I save an automatic 10% just in currency exchange. I'm going to try and update this thread more frequently as I make progress and/or decisions on the build. The actual build progress will be slow as I currently have no garage at my place to move the project here. Thats all for now!
