Project Ranger Revival.

i thought the 2.3 was TBI in 85, and the 2.0 was carbed? there *IS* a computer in this truck though, would a carbed 2.0 have one?

2.3 was carbed in 85. tbi is more older chevy tech than older ford tech(i think)

Ford did run TBI for about 2 years while they refined the ported injection system. They just didn't hang onto it like chevy did. Also, yes, a carbed engine may have had a computer, if it had an electronic carb, but i don't think the rangers ever had that. I think that the 2.3 was TBI for a bit between carb and MPI. I'd check to see if the old truck has computer. Then I'd go and swap everything from the 88 anyway.

i know they used it on the 3.8 v6

that and 88 2.3 engines were still carbed. 89 is when the 2.3 went to fuel injection

2.8's had the computer controlled carbs.

I don't know if a 2.0 had a computer controlled carb or not. There are very few 2.0's left and I have personally never seen one in real life. I know little to nothing about any RBV 4 cylinder stuff, but I do know that you need to use the correct computer and wiring harness unless you absolutely know your way around wiring diagrams and can piece together a harness that works.

If easy is what you're looking for, just swap everything.

My 88 2L has an electronic carb on it. Still, I hate that engine. lol

that's wrong, my 88 2.3 is throttle body fuel injected.

I don't know much about the old 4-bangers. I do know that the 2.0 went right from carb to Ported FI, and that because it was so simple and gave better mileage TBI was a common mod. It was sometime even done as dealership service. I think it was also standard on CARB vehicles. I can't really find a lot of info about the progression of the 2.3L fuel system.

it would have been converted then. because as far as i know they didnt use tbi.

well, the haynes manual agrees with what's actually under my hood, being TBI
