I've had this laying around for a couple years and decided to get started on it.
Project Money Pit

It used to belong to my brother in law and it sat around neglected only used occassionally. I should've posted pictures of the muck that came out of the oil pan.
Project Money Pit

It has some rust on it, but this is the worst spot.
Project Money Pit

It's got some mechanical issues to remedy and I came across a Jasper rebuild motor with low miles on it to shove in it for now.
When I got it it was pouring oil out of the valve covers. The shop my brother inlaw used for inspection and maintenance told him they didn't want to see it anymore. He called me and asked if I wanted it because he was going to junk it. For the cost of transfering the title and a pizza it became mine. Replaced valve cover gaskets and no more leaking. Drove it for a while but the motor has issues.

So what are the plans?

Resurection of the beast to the stock condition. Then we'll see from there what happens next. I'd like to lift it, put some different wheels and tires on it, nothing to extreme. Manual hubs and get rid of the push button 4X4. It will mostly be a winter ride, grocery getter and toy for now. I had to remove the hand controls that my brother inlaw had installed. I've got it ready to pull the old motor out now. Of course anything can happen as I have a tendency to go off track and change plans on the fly.

sounds like fun. I painted the hood on mine last weekend. I've decided to camo paint the whole thing this summer.

Originally my son and I where going to work on it when he got out of the Army. That didn't quite work out quite the way I'd hoped it would. But that's ok, he's got other things to be occupied with right now.

I'll be in here alot more lurking around and gathering info. Y'all helped me out a good bit already on some of it. Thanks for the info.

For the money, I'd go ahead and modify, instaed of going stock. Might as well have fun from the beginning, inmy experience!! ;)

4.0 there cheap enough n more readily available then the 2.9 n a whole lot more reliable

Got a real good deal on a 2.9, Jasper rebuild with 35k on it. It was in an 89 that rusted apart. Maybe later I'll do the 4.0 upgrade

I like it too. Kinda partial to that color too. Yours is much nicer tho.
