We got a new welder from the other shop in the company, a nice Miller Millermatic 250. So after work I got a little more done to the 8.8 from the explorer. Spring perches are welded on and ready to go. Now all I need to do is get the truck into the shop and strip the old axle off.

While I was welding the spring perches on I cleaned up the axle tubes and welded them to the center pumpkin as well. This 8.8 is ready to rock and roll.

Yeah I got a update. I was originally planning on doing just a 2" washer lift on the front. But I'm heading to Maryland on Black Friday to score a Dana 30 out of I think a wrangler for $50. What makes it a little bit sweeter is that the guy is giving me the Dana 35 rear at no cost. I'm throwing that into the scrap metal pile as soon as I get it back to Jersey.

A quick question for everybody. I got the dana 30 from the wrangler on black friday. So the question is, do I cut the leaf spring mounts off the axle and weld coil spring perches on or do I weld the leaf spring perches/shackles under the truck to mount the axle? I'm curious as to what would be the better setup. Give me the pros and cons of each.

A friend of mine dropped off a 98 Jeep Cherokee with a smashed in roof (a huge tree branch fell on it) in my driveway a week ago. He was letting me strip everything off of it that I needed, Dana 30, 31x10.5x15's tires and rims, and anything else I might need. He was supposed to pick it back up on Tuesday the 9th, but the weather here has either been too freaking hot or raining cats and dogs. I'm pricing out the materials to weld my own control arms similar to Rusty's or ironmans4x4's. I can't believe ironman4x4fab is selling their long arm kit and crossmember for $750 and Rusty's long arm kit with its crossmember is almost $800!!!
