Project Apple Bottom

I think one day it'll get to a supercharged lawnmower.

i made a 10hp push mower before! that was scary! used a motor out of my old craftsman mower and $5 garage sale push mower. i put the motor back in the rider though, swapped the crank pulley for a huge one, and the one on the transaxle is the size of an alternator pulley! used to be about 12inches! i just need to measure it out for a belt and its ready to go! too bad it sits like half my other projects..... i will probably have to push it to get it going, but i dont care.......wwwweeeeeeeeee!

thats kind of a neat project dually. say good bye to your wheel bearings! are you going to keep it a dually? or just a project to delete later on?

i first thought the idea seamed stupid, i saw a first gen ranger with just the fenders, it looked retarded.... but you do seem to know what your doing, and it already looks way better than i ever thought it would. it might actually be pretty cool! you just need 6 inch stacks coming out the bed!!!

:icon_thumby: I have to admit, it looks damn good. You do some awesome machine work.

Thank you everybody, I knew you guys would come around when you could picture what I was picturing. lol.

About the stacks, I'll make sure to put some in, just after I swap in a 4BT. In about 3 years, after I have another DD.

Pillen, I'm keeping it a dually, the wheel bearing issue has already been addressed.

I really like this. :icon_cheers:

I'm willing to bet however, that you start running into wheel bearing problems since you are still using D35 spindles and their closely spaced small bearings. Just keep and eye on them, I'm sure you'll be fine though.

I'll definitley keep an eye on the bearings. I'll probly pull em out and re-pack them before I get everything settled, then I can just keep an eye on them occaisonally.

I just found this thread while doing a search for wheels. Any pics of your truck with rubber on it?

The machining is beautiful, those adapters must be heavy though.

i have a guy at work his dad put a Sterling in the rear and for bed sides he used a step side on his old bed for the flair look

Nope, no pics with the rubber on as of yet, I'm still waiting to get the dually rims powder coated, but I do have tires to mount, I decided to go with a set of General Grabber AT2's.

I've just recently decided to scrap the adaptors all together, and go with a Dana 60 Front as well, but will probably use them on the front until I get the new axle fabbed up and ready to mount.

The bedsides are a little more tricky than I thought, I have the old besides cut off, and the stepside panels look like they will make a good fit, but it's a PITA to get them mocked up and mounted, (I also hate doing body work, but don't have the $$ to pay someone to do it, so I'm stuck doing it myself).

Also, a new update on this project, I've recently decided to go Diesel! Thats right! A guy from work gave me 2 Isuzu 4BD's, one is a 4BD1T, and the other is a 4BD2T. They are both 3.9L 4cyl, turbo diesels. I plan on using the 1T, after doing soem research I've found out it is a lot more reliable than the 2T. So, sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, I just wanted to answer those couple of questions and let everyone know that this project is still very much alive.

Until next time, stay tuned...

PLEASE...swap the 35 outters to 44 outters...your going to eat the crud outta those bearings..and possibly loose the tire...

it should all swap out IIRC..

and I have a sterling rear...VERY easy swap...just mount the perches and bolt her up!! (and never worry about it EVER AGAIN!!:clapping: )

DONNIE LEARN TO READ! he scraped the d35 adapter plate crap for a d60 (yes it was a wheel bearing eating crappy idea). if he does put a 60 up front i highly doubt he is dumb enough to run a 8.8 (even a 31 spline) out back.

AH....one line in 2 pages I miss...;brownbag;

Thats correct, if you had learned to read, you would have known that I am putting a Dana 60 Full Float out back. lol.

Now, to address this "crappy idea" comment. I do admit that it isn't exactly the most desireable way of achieving what I want, but in theory, it would have no effect on the wheel bearings. The way I designed them is by taking the backspacing of a stock Ranger rim, and the backspacing of a stock F-350 steel duallie rim, then I found the centerline of each rim, and calculated the difference between the two. That would tell you how thick the adaptor would have to be made in order to keep the centerline of a single duallie rim (as in, on the front of the truck), in exactly the same place as a stock Ranger rim, thus putting no extra stress on the wheel bearings. Yes, the hub where the rim mounts has been extremely lengthened, but by having the centerline in the same spot, this puts no extra leaverage on the bearings. And I stress IN THEORY. I haven't tried any of them yet, so I have no hard evidence to support it, but if the theory is correct nothing should change. Sorry to sound so uptight about it, but I did give them a lot of thought and research before I made them. But if you think they are crappy, you are entitled to your opinion, no hard feelings.

Now, moving on, I also have to make a body lift in order to be able to cram the 4BD under the hood. Luckily I found a bunch of aluminum billets at work that are about 2" thick, I just have to turn them down and throw a hole in them, and then figure out what I'm going to do for mounting hardware.

Stay tuned....
