2.3L ('83-'97) Problems with 94 2.3 running lean


Another area you may want to look at is the ECU. If the capacitors go bad then it will not do its job right, and all the symptoms you describe can come from a bad ECU. If you can get a hold of a Ford breakout box, then you can diagnose the ECU. Most people will just replace the ECU and keep swapping them out until you find a working one. As they get older, it becomes more difficult to find a good one. I finally swapped mine for a standalone ECU, and all these kinds of issues went away.
