price of antifreeze

In 1997 a gal of undiluted antifreeze was $5.00.
Now it's $27.00 - $35.00.

Does anyone know if there is a ligit reason for this huge price jump?

Where ya buying your antifreeze? I can get it for $13.99 Canadian for undiluted anywhere.

yea its like $12 a gallon. I dont think i could physically pay that much for it. I just googled around a bit and the most I found was like $16.

im paying about 16$ a jug for regular coolant. and 18$ for long life coolant.

I bought Preston 'Any Color' antifreeze coolant...1 gallon at walmart last month for $11.95. Where are the crack sticks you are smoking? You need to get rid of them....lol

walmart has it for $8.50 here and at work we sell it for $10-15

I pay 7.27 a gallon buying 2 cases at a time of parts plus brand

I buy 1 gal pure a/f an a .89 cent gal of distilled water an make my own 1/2 an 1/2

Its 11-12 bux for both of them here in tn. At walmart and advanced. Inflation and gullible customer willing to pay the prices are 40% of what affects prices. THe rest is the cost of transportation and delivery to the stores. If you far away from a DC the cost is higher.

I found it today at NAPA for $9.99
I Googled undiluted antifreeze last night and all I was finding was the high prices.
With Autozone and Kragen asking $13 - 15 for a gal of 50/50 (2 quarts antifreeze) , I thought the stuff was sky high now.

Thanks for the input guys, you saved me from paying a ridiculous price.

They probably do like J.C. Penny does. Have ridiculous markup and have regular sales that "seem" your getting a good deal(50% off etc.)

When I originally read this thread, I figured it was perhaps some new special coolant that local government mandated that it taste sour so kitties won't drink it and die.

Yeah it's not quite that much but it has gone up. Reason: Ethylene glycol is a deritive of good ol' crude. Black gold in the south. It's not only an antifreeze but also a lubricant.
So, when the price of crude goes up, all the things that come the processing of crude goes up as well. Namely, gas, plastics, some explosives, lubricants etc...
