Pretty sure the motor is siezed? Also, which 3.0 longblocks can I use?

FYI: I believe the correct acronym for the CAMshaft Position Sensor is actually CMP, whereas CPS designates the CRANKshaft Pos Sensor,

On Ranger engines it is called a "synchronizer".

Dang, starting to get paranoid about this CMP thaaaang. Are there warning signs? Is there any value to pre-emptively pulling the pup, and inspecting the infamous nylon gear for cracks, gouges, abnormal wear... or does it just "go"??

Mine gave lots of very loud warning. I started it up one day and it began to chirp loudly. The noise seemed to get quieter for a couple days, then got loud again. It never got to the point of stopping the oil pump. Just lots of noise.

actually, fixizin is right. the cam position sensor is shortened to CMP...but the sensor itself isnt the problem. the syncronizer (thats the part that actually engages the camshaft) is.

so your both right :icon_thumby:

My 99 ford ranger has a high pitched sound like you guys are describing. Dealership thought it was the serpentine belt. Replaced that and it still does it. Sometimes when it's really cold out the truck won't get oil pressure for a minute or two, or more. Does this sound typical of that failed synchro?

a bad syncro wont cause intermittant oil pressure problems. it either works or it doesnt.

the two problems could be unrelated though, best get the syncro checked out to make sure it isnt on its way out.
