pre detonation i think

Ok, I know this is poking at a hornets nest with a stick, but I have my Zippo
and a can of carb cleaner handy, so here goes...

WHY do people think a 2.3 turbo, ANY 2.3 turbo needs a 255lph fuel pump?

Does anyone happen to know what pump was used STOCK on most
2.3liter turbo engines?

Would it suprise anyone to know the pump used was a 95LPH pump?

And many people have run those engines to 300hp plus on the
stock pump and injectors...

OTOH the 255lph walbro moves a lot of fuel against low pressure,
but when the turbo Fuel pressure regulator starts demanding
more pressure the 255 has been seen to fall flat...

A walbro 255lph is overkill for a stock engine, let alone a 300hp engine. A 190lph is more than enough to supply the amount of fuel you need and then some. The problem with a 255lph pump is that you can overload your fuel pressure regulator. I dont know too much about the 2.3t, but I know that with DSMs a 255lph will flow too much at idle and will cause excessive rich conditions from the fpr not bypassing enough.

On my DSM, I upgraded to a fuellab adjustable regulator along with the 255lph walbro....easily takes on 20+ psi of boost... With a base pressure of 43, thats nearly 65 psi of fuel pressure it delivers up to my 7500 rpm rev limiter. I would suspect that if it has been found to fall flat, its the factory fuel lines that are a restriction, or some sort of issue related. I run -6an fuel lines and have never found the pump to not flow enough, and thats with 1050cc injectors (100 lb/hr). If people are pushing 300hp on stock injectors (38 lb/hr?, correct me if im wrong), then they are asking for punishment. Im suprised they didnt burn a hole through the piston. I wouldnt run anything less than a 550cc (50+ lb/hr) injector for 300hp.

For the OP: tuning a boosted engine is a tradeoff of boost, timing, and fuel. You must know what each of these are doing at any given time. Do you have a wideband? Do you have a way to control fuel? Whats your timing curve look like?

Ok I knew the 255 lph was over kill but come on we all start out stock and end up going more and more . I wanted to make sure I had more than enough no mater what

ok heres a another dumb ? how can u tell if it is pre igntion or detonation .... I still have the backfire put every once in a while i can get it past it and then it boost 12 to 15 and then it will rattel like a labor knock so if yall can help i would love to get this thang runing good enough to get it more streetable its fast as hell but i know there is a hole lot me to get out of it
