Powertrax Lock right

Anybody experience this locker. I am almost done with the my swapping in a ranger 8.8 for my old 7.5. I am trying to decide between the Powertrax Lockright or No slip. I do still run this truck to the lumber yard, store etc. So i want ok road manners, but good offroad reliability

I've heard the NoSlip is smoother.

Most of the time, my lock right is well behaved. But every now and then it has PMS...

Honestly, having both, I prefer the Lock-Right over the No-Slip and I like the Aussie the most... If you swapped in a 31 spline 8.8, get the Aussie...

I have had a lock rite in my dd since fall 2008 when I was driveing 80 miles daily to work. I like it much better than an open diff, and it handles fine on road, also when you want to get moving to turn into trafic you have all the traction you can use. After a week or two you will hardly notice it. I also think it is much more predictable and easyer to recover on snowy roads, because having both wheels locked while on the throtle makes the front lose traction but as soon as you let off you have plenty of traction on the steers. with the open diff after you loose traction on the steers you have trouble getting it back.

the only negative things I have noticed are that if you are on the highway with the cruse set and hit a curve on a hill it will swerve when it kicks down(auto tranny). There is a faint ticking sound if the windows are open and the radio is off-can't hear it the rest of the time. Also one time coming up my gravel drive way on a corner it unlocked when it shouldn't have and then relocked very harshly- I was moving about 10 mph and it felt like I had ran over a log about 6" in diameter- I actualy got out and walked back to see what I hit, and it had thrown a bunch of gravel out of the tracks; I figure if it only did that once in almost three years I can live with it- it sure startled me though.

off road it is great and a huge improvement over the open diff. I run it all over our hilly trails and fields and through some mud holes. my new 1994 4X4 can't handle the same route in 2wd and I have to run 4x4 most of the time just to keep from getting stuck. Actualy I buried the 4x4 in a strip of mud I run the locked 2wd through all the time- it took a 50 horse farm tractor with ag tires and field chains on the tires to pull me out. So the 4X4 will be getting lockers in both axles some time in the near future, I want to do the explorer 8.8" swap first though.

I have heard good things about the aussie auto lockers and they are cheaper so I will probably go with them.

OK - I see their webpage is still up. Since they are over $100 cheaper than LockRite, (and less complex), why don't folks recommend Aussie? Why would anyone buy a Lockrite over an Aussie?

I've never seen an Aussie Locker, they don't list a 28-spline 8.8 (even though they have the 31-spline listed under the Mazda B-series???) so I can't recommend something I know nothing about. The prices aren't that far apart--THIS is the first place that shows up as a retailer when I searched lockright.

I have had 2 Lockrights in my truck since around 2002 and love them. That's why I recommend them.

I have a 28 spline ranger 8.8 so ausie is out. Lockright looks to be the next most. Cost effective.

hey guys, good thread...i'm considering a locker too. i know that the tire wear is affected, but what about gas mileage. I can't make up my mind if i want it in the front or back or both. My truck is my daily driver and i really don't want to sacrifice a whole lot of efficiency so what do ya'll think.
