power windows dont work

Im gonna take it to my mechanic on monday. im sick of playin with the friggin thing. i hope its just something simple.

I just converted my 2001 truck from manual to automatic windows, locks and windows for $200.00. The stuff from a 2006 ranger I found in the junk yard. Also just noticed window and mirror motors on ebay are real cheap. Has anybody had any luck on ebay? The majority of the stuff seams to be from a whole sale company.... Not sure how long the motors last on that stuff.

yeah, took it to a shop. window motor and the tracks. 350 for the repair. screw it summers almost over, ill fix it in the spring.

no. not yet. just a private shop. i probly will, just to get a second opinion

Why don't you buy the parts from a junkyard for $30.00 and have someone install it for you? Total time should be less than an hour for install. You shouldn't pay for anything over $60.00 for labor or whatever rate is in your state for one hour. Pull something from a brand new 2007 or 2006 ranger.

IF you can test the parts in the field, that makes sense. If you can't, you may end up repeating the work.

Personally, I don't like to use used electrical parts if I can avoid it.

You can read power and the windows still not work. The basic circuit is a "reversal, rest at ground". In other words, the two motor wires are always grounded. When one of the switches is moved one wire changes to power while the other remains resting at ground. When testing a window motor or doorlock actuator, always put your test light or voltmeter across the two wires. But the main thing, is that you got your windows fixed- good deal! And you probably would have found bad switches in the first place, and that's not a bad price for two new OEM switches. So you did good.

You are right, you could get power to the motor, but, if there no ground, it wolld not work.

How often do you roll you windows up and down? My gma has the same problem w/ her van, she NEVER rolls the windows up and down...so I have to remove the door panel and whack the motor to unfreeze the contacts

Bump the motor a few times w/ a hammer.....

Don't be shy about giving it a good whacking!!!!:D
