I just bought a 2000 ranger. It was steering fine. I got a front brake job & now I have problems with the the steering. It has jerkey movements when I turn and shakes when I hit a bump or turn sharp like the freeway off ramp. I was told from the mechanic who also has a ranger that it is a defect in the power steering pump, that when it's on the lift and the wheels are turned without the motor running it get's air in the power steering line and should work it's way out in a couple of day's and be fine. I must say that was yesterday and it is getting better. Has anyone had the same problem?

The mechanic is right. It will go away soon.

I just bought a 2000 ranger as well, and i am having the same EXACT issue. I actually came on here hoping to find someone else with the same thing, and now I know im not alone. Let me know if your shaking went away, because i don't want to replace the stupid pump. Thanks a lot! BTW Bent Bolt your truck is awesome!

you dont have to wait for it to go away. the mechanic should have done this.... all you have to do is put the truck in park with the engine running. then sit there and turn the wheel all the way one way, hold it at the bump stop for 2 seconds, then turn the wheel all the way back the other way and hold it at the end there for 2 seconds. repeat this process at least a few times. after about 4 or 5 back and forths, you will notice the steering tightens up.
