Power steering pump going out or idler pulley?

Anyone know how long a belt tensioner generally lasts? Looking through the records (original owner kept awseme records), the tensioner and belt were replaced April 04 @ 51k miles (belt was replaced again April 08 @ 87k miles). It is now Aug 10 and truck has 106k miles. I'm thinking I am going to go ahead and replace it. Thoughts?

My tension assembly went at 60,xxx Km's if its any consolation.

Yeah, for $60ish for the idler pulley and tensioner, figure it is good preventative maintenance.

OK, so I replaced the idler pulley Weds and the belt tensioner last night. Still getting the noise. For some reason, it is not as much but it is still there. Maybe coincidence

Get to work today and lucked out with it making the noise as I pulled in my lot. Popped the hood and used the stethascope I bought last night ($3.99 at harbor freight btw). Nothing. Not coming from any of the pulleys.

Put my ear to the airbox. Hmmm. Opened the airbox and it got louder. Seems to be coming from the intake. Thoughts on what is the cause?

Thanks

Not sure the airbox is the issue. With it open, sounds like in the intake somewhere. Hit the gas and it stopped. Also, i replace the IAC in April

There are no driveability issues or leaks that I can see.

Congrats for buying the stethescope- now you can stop guessing and replacing stuff that isn't broken. These trucks are notrious for having the PCV hose collapse and sucking a hole in the rubber hose. Since the noise changes when you hit the gas, and you had idle problems (IAC problem history) I would be checking that one out closely. I didn't notice the year of your truck, but if it is 2001 and newer (SOHC) that rubber hose runs from the passenger side front of the motor, runs straight back towards the firewall, runs under the intake over to the rear corner on the driver's side. It is plastic with a few rubber elbows... check those out and see what U come up with. If this is the case it will eventually throw a P0171 or P0174 code for lean bank 1 or 2

Well. like i said, replacing "things that were not broken" was not really an issue as the parts were only $60 combined ($20 idler $40 tentioner) and the truck has 106k miles on it. Worth the trial and error at that cost and mileage.

I have a 99 with the 4.0 OHV. I'll check the PCV tonight.

Anyone else experience this intake noise?
