Power seats into a first gen Ranger?

Anybody ever tried putting power seats into a first generation Ranger? Do they just have a power and ground or is there more to them than that?

With the ones I am looking at I guess only the driver side is power, and it has an air pump that pumps up a bladder in the seat back. I want power if it will work because I am fairly tall and would love to be able to lower the seat from where my bench is now.

What is the difference between the floor profiles between a first generation Explorer and a first/second generation Ranger? Is it something big or could something be tweeked or shimmed to be made to work?

the power seats don't sit AS low as the non power seats, unless you are
willing to set them at an uncomfortably low angle at the front.

The reality of power seats never equals the idea.

I accomplished much of my comfort in my Ranger by actually
installing a 1-1/4" spacer between the seat frame and the seat
track at the FRONT of the seat track to lift the front of the seat
up and increase the seatbase rake.

this simply gives me more leg support.

The problem with a standard cab is there's simply no place
to go with reclining the seat back.

I'm 6'4" and frankly I refuse to own a standard cab.

there just isn't enough room in there for my frame.

I'm 6ft. 1in. and on long trips my lower back hurts. I have to live with a standard cab but when I buy a new truck (ranger) it will be extended cab.

I am 6'-3", it is kind of tight but I have longer legs and a shorter torso. It ain't too bad, I have had the thing for 9 years now with the current set up.

Mainly when I look out of the window, I am looking just about below the blue stuff at the top.

Power isn't that big of a thing to me, I am the only one that drives the truck so they stay where I put them, but it seems in the Ex they go down a lot lower than my bench is in my Ranger.

Well if you sat i my vehicle you sit two ways. First low because my seat is broken in and second you are leaning to the left because the floor is roting out and my dad is a heavier guy and then gave it to me.

Wow... I'm 6'2" with most of it in my legs and I have plenty of legroom... Though I do believe the buckets in my Ex are in fact the most comfortable seats in the world...

Edit - Maybe my Explorer seats go back further than Ranger seats? I still have adjustment room left in the seat track (like 2 or 3 clicks)...

Forgot to say that I have 60/40 seats in mine from an 86 ranger. My dad has a bench seat in his 84 and it is broke down so you sit 3 inches lower in the drivers seat then the passenger. In my experiance, its hard to drive the truck with a broken in/down seat.

i'd say your experience has taught you it's hard to drive a truck given to you by your dad.

just kidding. i'm sure you couldn't beat the price you paid for it. my first car was given to me by my dad and the back of the seat was broken completely so i used a steel bar to prop the back up when i drove it!

btw, i'm from Indy originally and still have family there.

Price?????? Can you say free!!!! He even gave me his old motorcycle and it out runs his harley. All my vehicles I've gotten were free....well had to put a little money into them to keep them going.

Like my dad says "take what you can get and be glad you got it".

Legroom is fine, headroom for me is tolerable. If I can get more I am all into it but I have lived with it this long.

As far as seat adjustment goes, I have a back wall to contend with in my standard cab Ranger. If my bench would go back any farther it would start to recline up. I think tipping the seat assembly back would do the same thing.

Mainly I want buckets... and a real console. More headroom is an added bonus as well.

Have you looked at the article in the tech pages about cutting the wing off the 60 seat? I did it on mine and it came out well, then threw in a Clutter Catcher from Wal Mart for a cheap console.

+1 on the 60/40 conversion, mine turned out nice and the EX center console works nicely. i ran mustang seats in my truck for about 3 years and they seemed to have a shorter base so they sat lower to the floor. i think if i would have stuck some washers under the front mounting bolts i would have gained alittle bit of "recline" and i might have kept them.

I plan on doing the 60/40 conversion, no questions asked. I hate not having a cup holder and a place to put my stuff. I have to have an arm rest when I drive too.

I would have to buy the seats, the explorer seats would be free.
