can anyone point me to an article that shows how to properly position a 302 into first gen ranger?????

No article, but I used the trans crossmember to center the trans (my cross memeber is from www.suicidedoors.com, it is moveable) and hooked up the stock driveshaft to set the front to back measurement. Eye-balled it to make sure it was square after that.

Position so that the water pump faces the front of the truck. JK

Try to fit your engine as low and far back as possible. Lowering your engine (while still having clearance with the oil pan and such) will give you a lower center of gravity. Placing it as far back as you can comfortably will allow for better weight distribution and it will be easier to fit your accessories and cooling system.

sweet thanks man... so i should just use my crossmember as a guide then?

Thats the way I did it to.Let the Trans X member locate the front to back on the engine so I wouldnt have to cut the front and rear shafts.

thats not a question with a perfect answer.

headers, actual intended use and ride height guide my decisions.

this is influenced by the cooling system needs as well..whether or not ac is retained ect.
